The Kelpie was owned by Victoria dairy farmer Brian McLaren.
He told a local newspaper that she died on Sunday night in her basket.
"She was 30. She was still going along nicely last week. She was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing," Brian told the Weekly Times.

Love it!!
That’s how I want to go.
Growl at a couple of people I don’t like and then lie down in my basket.
Is your name Oscar? From Sesame Street? Yes, a thirty year old dog is news. Now back to your trash can, Grouch.
Just another example of the mean spirit and hardheartedness that is now so prevalent on FR. I find myself coming less and and less.
“Losing a dog thats like a family member every 10-12 years is terrible.”
“I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?”
Sir Walter Scott
Aw, I love Maggie. Hope to see her in heaven. Thanks for the link; incredible story. Woof!

Why Dogs Dont Live as Long as Humans
A four year old childs wisdom
(From the internet

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten year old Irish wolfhound, named Belker. The dogs owners, Ron, his wife Lisa and their little boy Shane were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog. Ron and Lisa told me that they thought it would be good for the four year old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belkers family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few moments, Belker slipped away peacefully. The little boy seemed to accept Belkers transition without any difficulty or confusion.
We sat together for a while after Belkers death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, I know why. Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I never had heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, People are born so that they learn how to live a good life like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? The four year old continued, Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they dont have to stay as long.
Thank you.
Yes, I lost my mother to cancer and it was hard, but she lived her life and we both knew where she was going so there was comfort. While it’s hard to describe, my dog followed me everywhere. I was the alpha within my adult nuclear family and he followed my lead in everything. He was very smart and instantly obedient. Except for occasional safety reasons, he never needed a leash because he always walked by my side and never bolted. We developed this “understanding” and just knew each other.
Didn’t think I could get over him, and in some ways I still haven’t, but we did get another dog and mysteriously sorta the same thing happened.
I have bonded with her in a way that only dog owners I think can really understand. We just know each other and at times lean on each other. She too is very smart, very athletic, just a bit stubborn, but turning into a very obedient dog.
She is only two years old and yet wife and I always dread that eventual day which we understand will surely come. But in a way, we try to enjoy her to the fullest now as a result.
I do genuinely believe that both our dogs have been a sweet gift from the hand of God.

Well, I won’t go into the explanations. But, I have had several Danes and they all made it to at least 9. I have a 12 year old Dane now. She is still doing well and think she will go to 13 no problem. I have had different breeds, but, the Danes are just “different”, and I will always own at least one at anytime. The average I have seen from a rescue and owner experience is 8-9. These dogs are born like any other and need a good home. They can’t help the span. And if you ever choose one, you will be hooked.
My much-loved Siberian Husky died peacefully in her sleep two months ago-she was very old for a big dog at 17, and had slowed down a bit in the last couple of years-but still played with the 3 cats and howled back at coyotes at night. She’d had her usual happy day and settled down to a nap on her bed by my chair after dinner and a walk-when I saw that she was not breathing awhile later, I realized that her 17-year-old heart had finally given out.
I’d had her since she was an 8 week old pup, and wish I could have had her with me for 30 years-I miss her...
