I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of this election season. FR has turned into a bickering board of bitter bubbleheads, it seems. Where we used to see Ted Cruz as a principled conservative... we now attack anyone who likes him as a "Cruzite" or "Cruzombie"... what happened?
First, there was the attack against him that he played dirty tricks in Iowa by relaying an MSM message that Carson was leaving the race. What would you do? If you are in a popularity contest against multiple opponents, wouldn't you make sure that the votes of an ideological brother weren't wasted on a failed effort? It's a logical reasoning... and you don't have days to debate it in committee, you have minutes and seconds before votes are tallied. That Cruz apologized at all for this news media-inspired fiasco shows him to be the bigger man.
Then what? He's following the rules and gathering delegates? I thought we wanted someone who knows how the game is played and can win elections... silly me. The Trump supporters don't seem to realize that DT is not the closer he claims to be. He is riding a wave of populism but is losing on the rules because he is disorganized and unprepared.
Saying all of this doesn't mean I am anti-Trump... I am anti-Dem whether the Dem is Hillary, Bernie, or Biden. Doesn't matter to me. If Trump is the eventual nominee, he will get my vote to stop the Dem machine's destruction of our great country.
In the primary, though, I want the most conservative in the race who has shown he knows how to win. That man is Ted Cruz. Why he is slimed on a conservative board is beyond me... and it saddens me. Maybe he isn't your guy... fine. Why does he have to be slimed? If he does manage to pull out an upset... what have you accomplished but hurting our best chance for conservative restoration in this country?
Agreed.
FR has been my go-to-site for nearly 18 years. I have tried to stay out of the mud slinging from both sides but I do agree that things have gotten out of hand. Unless something dramatic changes I don’t think we have a snowball’s chance in winning in November because one side or the other is going to get their feelings hurt and stay home on election day. It’s a shame.
> I have zero concerns about Cruz doing the right thing.
I find that odd considering how often Cruz has done the wrong thing during this campaign.
>> I have zero concerns about Cruz doing the right thing.
One of the major reasons I’m a Ted Cruz supporter. Consistent conservative; walks the walk. We can count on Ted.
Someone who could run the government like a business.
Not a career politician.
Divorced from the moneyed interests that have wrecked our nation.
Someone that would make the Republican establishment shake in their boots.
I guess my opinion about Cruz changed when:
- I learned he was born in Canada
- I learned his wife works for Goldman Sachs
- I learned that his Senate campaign was financed by loans from Goldman
- I learned that his record on immigration was muddled
- I learned that he has been in favor of all the recent trade deals.
I think Cruz and Trump are complete weirdos. I don’t get the enthusiasm for either of these stiffs. At best I’ll vote for either with equal nausea against the dem. Just like I always do, never for someone, always against.
Freegards
You backed away because "your guy" took a margin loan against his own assets to fund his campaign? If you don't understand the mechanism, do some research. Don't drop "your guy" because his opponents demonize him for every small detail they think can stick. It only sticks if you let it.
We have see Ted Cruz exposes himself as a fraud and a completely unprincipled person... that’s what happened
Anyone who has been waiting on another lawyer from one of the “elite” law schools when that’s exactly the sort of people who have been running our country into the ditch for decades is foolish no matter what that lawyer presents them-self as.
I am glad I wasn’t waiting on that thing. Had no idea how awful he was.
Perhaps. But if that were the only rational wouldn't most of us be excited to have two viable candidates that we could collectively support? Instead, the level of irrational vitriol on FR is emblematic of something you would see on DU.
FR has, among most conservatives, has had a reputation for having conservative ideological people post logical, fact based and reasoned opinion. There are some VERY intelligent and knowledgeable people that post on FR. Often times there is a lot to learn. I have been swayed on several occasions to reconsider and/or do further research on positions I have held, thanks to rational discussion here. But there is certainly a level of emotional insanity that follows this primary cycle that really should not be so vitriolic.
>> we will all be friends again. Rooting for Cruz to beat Hillary.
Yes, and Amen.
Can you please give an example for discussion?
You are not the only one who feels this way.
Huh? The tweets on Iowa were documented. Ted cheaTED.
What happened to Cruz was he was found out as a GOPe mole in the Tea Party.
Grow up.
It started after Chicago.
“Gathering delegates” to nominate a candidate is not going to produce someone who will be necessarily viable in November. I prefer the party nominate a candidate who millions of voters stood in line to vote for.
This principle applies to any election, regardless of who the candidates are.
I believe the problem began when Trump supporters on FR were having such a good time and the Cruz supporters would have none of it.
The pecking increased but the TRUMP TRAIN rolled on having fun.
Then IOWA backfired on Cruz, for his treachery and tactics. Carson seemed shell shocked, deeply hurt and finally blue with rage.
Cruz was already burdened by his pony tricks in the senate, do I really have to type up that list of globalist agenda items he enables?
Here we are at this point and Cruz is generally hated, on his own merit, found campaigning now on NOTHING but dirty tricks with delegates, and how to thwart the people’s will of TRUMP.
Everything Cruz is doing to TRUMP in the suppressing, rejecting and replacing of Trump supporters to be his delegates, Cruz is doing to the people who put TRUMP where he is, at the head of the pack, smoking the field, and doing it with no theft.
The people are pissed.
We have picked our nominee. Cruz and his cut throat delegates are in the way. Thankfully, the GOPE hate him too, and he will never be the nominee.
Cruz loses on that Second Ballot, if it even occurs. Nobody wants Cruz. That’s something his flock of geese are unprepared for.
THAT is why Kasickkkk is still in. He knows Cruz is out.
