Many societies, especially those of the Americas and China, have a history of using cayenne pepper therapeutically. A powerful compound with many uses, cayenne pepper is currently gaining buzz for cleansing and detoxifying regimes such as the Master Cleanse, which uses the spice to stimulate circulation and neutralize acidity.
Cayenne pepper has been used for a variety of ailments including heartburn, delirium, tremors, gout, paralysis, fever, dyspepsia, flatulence, sore throat, atonic dyspepsia, hemorrhoids, menorrhagia in women, nausea, tonsillitis, scarlet fever and diphtheria.
1. Anti-Irritant Properties
Cayenne has the ability to ease upset stomach, ulcers, sore throats, spasmodic and irritating coughs, and diarrhea.
2. Anti-Cold and Flu Agent
Cayenne pepper aids in breaking up and moving congested mucus. Once mucus begins to leave the body, relief from flu symptoms generally follows.
3. Anti-Fungal Properties
The results of one study indicated that cayenne pepper could effectively prevent the formation of the fungal pathogens phomopsis and collectotrichum [1].
4. Migraine Headache Prevention
This may be related to the peppers ability to stimulate a pain response in a different area of the body, thus reverting the brains attention to the new site. Following this initial pain reaction, the nerve fibers have a depleted substance P (the nerves pain chemical), and the perception of pain is lessened.
5. Anti-Allergen
Cayenne is an anti- agent and may even help relieve allergies.

I’ve heard cumin has a lot of those properties.
I was taking lots of cayenn pepper capsules for four months-it did nothing to bring down my bp. I was surprised as I’ve heard only good things about it. After one month on a low dose of bp meds I’m feeling much better and my bp is 90/60.
This is a one shot thing (for each occurrence) and temporary with the effect until I could get back on the meds. When it first started happening, the spikes, I had to go to the emergency room once. All they did was pump in a couple of liters of IV’s and knocked me out with Valium. For $3000.
So for the PTSD I am taking a benzo (among others) and if my blood pressure spikes the doc told me it was ok to take more to get things under control. But I haven’t had a spike since last October. And now I refill the BP meds a week before I run out and not a week after.
Guys, look into the following:
1. Vitamin D, Vitamin K2-MK7, Magnesium and Boron (it appears that together, these help move calcium plaques out of arteries and instead into the bones.)
2. beta-cyclodextrin (recently found to capture cholesterol off of uncovered cholesterol plaques and take it out of the body) (injections work best)
3. Grape seed extract (antioxidants relax arteries)
4. Cocoavia (the patented low-temperature processed cocoa bean extract with which most all cocoa studies are performed—MRI studies show semi-permanent blood flow increases from changed arteries, even in the brain (Need at least 500mg a day for 90 days, but blood flow to the brain showed an equivalent to effectively a half-current lifespan increase in blood flow (half your current age)))
5. Rat red salmon fish varieties for high Omega-3 and astaxathin
6. Loose weight and exercise more
You may already be doing some of these, but surely not all. The beta-cyclodextrin is a brand new finding and I haven’t looked into its feasibility, but I take or do the rest and my BP is great without drugs (all the men in my immediate and extended family had BP/heart issues).
I alternate on my soup recipes. One week I'll make really spicy soup and the next week I'll tone it down a tiny bit. Last week, I used ground beef and chorizo as my meat...with lots of cumin and cayenne.
Today I am using pork finger ribs for meat and to make my stock.
I am on a low carb diet so instead of bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice (which I really love), I spurge on spices.
Life without starches is somewhat empty, but I am thin and healthy.
Not “rat,” but “red” salmon.
Oh, I was trying to type “Eat”
I’m smartphone typing. Sorry!
I can take a tablespoon of crushed red peppers and eat it like it was mashed poatoes. It’s an odd talent that amazes people. But, if you ever eat something too hot cold water is not the cure. What you want is glass of really hot water. Take a sip, there’s a quick flash of pain, and then it’s back to normal.
What is flak? I’m having high no problems, just started about six months ago and am takings meds, but would rather try natural meds.
Heres my Spicy Navy Bean recipe:
I scrub, rinse several times, and then soak 2 cups navy beans with fresh water overnight.
In the crock-pot with water 2 over beans for 5 1/2 hours on high:
3 ounces of vegetable oil (Smart Balance Omega) Heart healthy
2 small okra (cut up)
3 small green onions (cut up)
7 or 8 small dried whole red pepper pods (Hot) Cayenne
1/4 teaspoon Mexican chili powder (just for the beautiful golden color) Dont scrimp on this, the magic ingredient
1 teaspoon seasoning salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper
After in the bowl I give it a couple twist of a Peppercorn Medley Grinder
We LOVE slicing fresh jalapenos very thin and sautéing them (we use canola and butter) until they are almost black and crispy. I usually fix about 7 peppers and we make nachos the next day with the leftovers. Wonderful with steak, pork and chicken entrees....IMHO! Oh, turn on the vent or you’ll also open the sinus passages!
Boron. Interesting, thanks.
I think the answer is, “Happiness”. At least for a while.
It does wonders for you sinuses too.
Flak is a mispelling of flax. Two tablespooons per day am and pm.
I’m glad that you’ve got the bp under control-I felt sick through the fall and winter trying to fix it myself. Blood pressure is a crazy thing-one doc kept looking at my last several years of bp readings and said this just shouldn’t be happening. Years and years of good bp then a sudden spike in the fall and it stayed up no matter what I tried. Inexplicable.
Had a kidney ultrasound, my thyroid tested (I have Graves’ disease but it’s in remission) and all are normal. No reason for the sudden high bp.
Only thing off is that I am deficient in vitamin D. Doc says there is no correlation between that and high bp, but I’m secretly hoping there is ;-). Heart disease runs in my family and I have tried so hard to make better choices over the last 20 years-I don’t want to follow the same path as my mom, but I may be no matter what. She had a massive heart attack at 51. She survived, but it was a miracle. Doc said she should be six feet under. Too young and not fat so no one believed her chest pains were serious. Until they were almost deadly.
My spice delivery girl arrived late. When she knocked, I said, “Cumin, Rosemary. It’s about thyme!”
I was actually about to Google “rat red salmon.” LOL!
I'll try it next week.
Look up Serrapeptase.
