Seems like good advice.

Time to jettison QuickTime for Windows ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Statement from Apple on their support site:
If you're not sure whether a program requires QuickTime, contact the program's developer. Most recent media-related programs for Windows—including iTunes 10.5 or later—no longer use QuickTime to play modern media formats. These programs either play the media directly or use the media support built into Windows.

Uninstalling QuickTime 7 also removes the legacy QuickTime 7 web plug-in, if present. Websites increasingly use the HTML5 web standard for a better video-playback experience across a wide range of browsers and devices, without additional software or plug-ins. Removing legacy browser plug-ins enhances the security of your PC.

Apple should provide a downloadable uninstaller. Many Windows users have never uninstalled a program.

I’ve fought to get it uninstalled or at least to convince browsers that it’s gone. Years after finally getting rid of the POS I still get the occasional “this is a file Quicktime doesn’t understand”.

Good riddance.

Use the free VLC program for movies and music. Easy controls.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

You can go frame by frame and take screenshots of your movies.
Right click on the toolbar once opened> View> Advance controls
Tools> Preferences> Video> Directory to change where to save the screenshot.

Get Video Download Helper. It is an add-on for Firefox.
I use this for Youtube. I get most of my music there plus interesting film clips. http://www.downloadhelper.net/

I didn’t know QuickTime was still used anymore actually.

I should probably examine some of my older machines to make sure it’s not still hanging around.
