In a stunning move that shakes up the top of the draft and almost ensures that the Rams will be starting a rookie quarterback in 2016, the Titans have traded the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to Los Angeles, both teams announced Thursday morning.
The Rams, previously selecting at No. 15, are the lowest-picking team in NFL history to trade up to the No. 1 spot. The move, however, did not come cheap.
It is essentially the Rams' karmic payback for fleecing the Redskins back in 2012 for a treasure trove of picks that led to the selection of Robert Griffin III. The terms are as follows: Tennessee gets: Rams' first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016) third-round pick (2016), first-round pick (2017), third-round pick (2017).
Rams get: Titans' first-overall pick (2016), fourth-round pick (2016), sixth-round pick (2016).

Purty pricey for either of those two.....Somebody must have tested off the charts.
Im Mike Ditka, and I approve of this trade.
How any Conservative can still watch the NFL is beyond me.
Way to give people who hate you and your values billions every year to use against you.
It’s amazing to me at this juncture in the game GMs still mortgage their future for a player. And still follow the “missing piece” (”if we just got this one guy...”) philosophy of team building. The Rams have a terrible o-line, they could draft the next Peyton Manning but if they don’t fix that line he’ll be the next RGIII. And giving away 6 first day picks over 2 years makes it a lot harder to fix that line. As Brady, and Romo, and Roethlisberger, and Rodgers prove, you don’t need to pick first to get a good QB, you need to pick SMART.
Be that as it may, a lot of us freepers like watching the NFL, so if you don’t, go start a thread on quilting or basket weaving, something more interesting to you.
The Rams probably feel the need to make a big splash what with being in a new city. Gin up fan interest.
Of course when they stink for the next 4 years because only 1 of the 3 picks they got back actually winds up playing, and spends half the time on his back, that fan interest will fade fast.
We see these trades every couple of years and they never work out. I’m always confused as to how highly paid GMs who you figure should know better run right into that trap over and over. It also bugs me how nobody in the sports press ever seems to call them out until years later if at all. The math is pretty clear, with only 7 draft picks a year using more than 1 to get a player is a losing proposition. Especially now with the Pats dominant for so long and built on a philosophy of trading down to bank picks going into most years with 10 or more picks, there’s a clear model for the league to copy. But I guess the Pats method only works if there’s suckers out there not paying attention.
I agree. It’s good to be a fan of a team that’s well run. Patriots and Seahawks come to mind.
Libertarians too. Taxpayers are getting ripped off from stadium deals.
Strip the trophy from the Broncos so you can give it to the Panthers so you can STRIP IT FROM THEM!!
Why?
Titans made out like bandits. They’re probably the ones to bet on in 2117.
If I’m a GM, the first guy I try to get is the best damn Offensive Line coach that money can buy. Because a good offensive line instantly makes you competitive regardless of what else you’ve got at the other positions. And a guy who can take any bunch of spare Offensive Linemen and make them a good unit, is worth his weight in gold.
Win the war in the trenches. 2 great line coaches are really the path. Then you need the scouts to find the talent. And self discipline to never over pay. Do that and you can make the playoffs 14 out of 15 years, 6 trips to the Big Game, and put Lombardis in the case. It seems like such a simple formula, and yet at any given time half the league can’t seem to comprehend any part of it.
Yep, the Patriots come closest to taking that approach, and you can see the dividends it pays.
Yep, also a good talent evaluator makes the difference as well, the one who finds the ‘diamonds in the rough’.
The library is closed on Sunday.
But all the parks are still open.
There’s a million things to do on a Sunday on your day off (Even when I liked football, I could never stay in all day on a Sunday just watching TV, and I lived in a very cold climate).
Football is one of the easier things to give up. They hate you and they don’t deserve your money.
My first thought also.
