Lady Melinda Rose Woodward - known as Linda - who was married to singer Tom Jones for 59 years, died on Sunday morning at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
"Surrounded by her husband and loved ones, she passed away peacefully," a statement on 75-year-old Sir Tom's website said.
He recently cancelled concerts due to a "serious illness" in his family.
He met his wife, his childhood sweetheart, when they were both 12 and growing up together in Treforest, Pontypridd. Melinda Trenchard, as she was then, came from a family of local cinema owners.
They started dating at 15 and married when they were 16 in 1957.

A beautiful love story!
Is he the guy who sang the theme to The Love Boat?
The Queen calls Tom Jones ‘Sir’? Not that I’m complaining - I distinctly recall my elders (female) rave and essentially go ‘ga-ga’ over the man. I don’t think anyone had a bad word to say about Mr. Jones.
RIP Linda.
Yes, it is.
I don’t know that theme, but he did ‘What’s New, Pussycat? & ‘It’s No Unusual’.
Nice to see an entertainer stay with his wife like that.
Pardon me... ‘It’s NoT Unusual’!
From all accounts, Tom Jones remained faithful to his wife for all those years.
haha. Funny. Do a bit of research. Yes, he technically “stayed with her”. But Sir Tom has had his fun. Very publicly. Many of his fans will be shocked he was married, and married this long.
Condolences to Mr. Jones and family, and prayers for the departed.
No. That was Jack Jones.
A kind of love I will never understand. Jones bragged about bedding 250 women in one year during his hayday
Wow, married at 16 and still married after 59 years. What a wonderful story.
Oh well...too bad. If she stayed, I guess she was satisfied with the arrangement.
jack jones i do believe
Jones was knighted in 2006, so yes, the Queen would call him “Sir”.
No he did not. He put her through hell and bragged about it.
