This is mainly for the military retirees who access this site.
I don't know whether to be happy or sad with this, but two weeks ago I ordered a pair of eyeglasses from NOSTA via email. I thought something was strange when I got two replies that they had received my order. Ten days later I received a new pair of bi-focal eyeglasses. Not the same BCGs that we had in the military but close. A day later I received a second pair of glasses. Now I have two pair of shooting glasses. While I don't mind having two pair of glasses, I wonder what this says about the coordination process at this facility. Both pair did turn out to be pretty good, though I'll be going to my Optometrist to get them properly fitted.
The mission of the Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity (NOSTA) is to support readiness of the Armed Forces by providing timely fabrication and worldwide delivery of quality eyewear. Additionally, retired military personnel, regardless of rank, are authorized one pair of standard issue spectacles or one pair of half-eye spectacles annually.
If you are less than 50 miles from a military medical clinic with optometry services, you should take your prescription for spectacles to them so that they may measure you for proper fit. They will order your spectacles from the appropriate military ophthalmic laboratory. You may also contact Customer Service during regular business hours with your questions.

You can get quality and fashionable eyeglasses from zennioptical.com for less than $10. Bifocals are more.
My eyesight is such that I have to wear progressive lenses. I have found a problem with them when shooting. When shooting a rifle and I bring my cheek down near the stock, the front sight looks bent or curved. These darn progressives are distorting my vision!
I also wear progressive lenses. But, I don’t seem to have that problem when shooting rifles. I shoot handguns, primarily, but have been known to shoot AK-47, AR-10, and AR-15 with a friend. He has scopes on both ARs, but the AK still uses iron sights. I never noticed a problem with the progressives. However, it took me a long time to get use to the progressives when playing golf.
Spieth must have been wearing progressives yesterday down in Atlanta.
;-)
Go to the Zinni site, I bought 3 pairs of prescription glasses, aviator type, bi focal, tinted, total cost was about $110 (Titanium frames) Every now an then its a buy 2 get 3 sale. I take advantage of it.
Thanks for the info on Zenni Optical. it will come in handy for my wife’s next glasses. Won’t do me much good as I now have two new Neo-BCGs. I do hate paying $150 or more for a pair of Titanium frames.
You are welcome. We have been very happy with their products and service.
