Authorities in Tennessee have released video of a shooting in which a white police officer kills a black woman who was approaching him while wielding a medieval-style ax.

The video, released Thursday, shows Gallatin Officer James Spray telling 40-year-old Laronda Sweatt, who was holding the ax, to stop approaching him multiple times before fatally shooting her.

"I want to know why he did her like that," Ella Sweatt said. "He didn't have to."

Never raise a weapon toward a cop, ever. And stop when he says stop.

She was deprived of her due-process rights.

A full trial should have been conducted on the spot. Judge, bench, jury box, bailiffs, court reporter, everything.

I wonder if it was suicide by cop?

Looks like a clean shoot to me. She was far too aggressive with that axe to be ignored or physically restrained.

Range of a Taser is about the same as the range of an ax, I think. Especially if the ax is thrown, as Ed Ames once demonstrated to the entire world on the Johnny Carson show.

Someone comes after you with an axe, are you gonna go for your gun or your taser?

After watching the video, if the tazer had failed due to her being on drugs that officer would be dead.

That chick was not going to stop. That officer did not do anything anyone here would have done.

Are kidding? You going to bet your LIFE on a taser?

Don't want to die? Don't raise a deadly weapon on a police officer.

Don’t bring an ax to a gun fight.

...if the tazer had failed due to her being on drugs...

Or a thick sweater or jacket. There's many reasons why its a bad idea.....much like wielding a deadly weapon on a cop.

“Seriously, didn’t he have a Taser?”

I’m not certain how I would feel about that. She could throw the ax and get in a lucky shot. Then you might think “well, shoot her in the shoulder or arm”. Or, miss, put a bullet through a nearby house, and cripple a kid who was sitting on the sofa watching TV. It’s tough to armchair quarterback these things.
