We lived on a lake for many years; when *hunter-gatherer* son was about 10y/o he expressed interest in ice fishing on the lake. A nice retired gentleman donated all the equipment to my son, to get him started.
That meant I had to find minnows and other lures for his new-found hobby. Fortunately, we had a small aquarium set-up .... so any bait minnows were stored there until needed.
Well, as fate would have it, a minnow, we eventually named *Lucky* caught the biggest Bass you could ever imagine from the frozen lake. The bass was released, and *Lucky* was retrieved from the Bass’ mouth, and put back in the aquarium. I don’t recall now, how many timwes *Lucky* was used, but it was quite a few. IIRC, he was retired when spring came, and released into the lake, *Free Will* style to fend on his own.

Small pyre + small fish = small fry.

When *Tom* reaches Valhalla, maybe he'll turn into a real fish.

A ‘zeebie.’
I used to have zeebies. They’d get up a good head of steam and leap out of the aquarium that had no lid. If I heard them, I’d scoop them up and put them back in. Once in awhile, I’d come home to a dried zeebie on the floor. Not pretty.
Then, I bought a lid.

No, but there were Valkyries and a faint echo of Wagner.

What a great story. Bless you and bless your mom.
* * *
Thank you! Her artist friends really chimed in. They brought all kinds of little mementoes to put on the little ship. One of her friends did pen-and-watercolor paper dolls of the Norse goddess Freya and her 13 cats who were said to have pulled her chariot. (My mom adored her kitties.)
I’m glad we did it. I think it made my mom happy.
