Following a vote from the Board of Trustees, Susquehanna University is the latest institution whose mascot, the Crusaders, must go due to concern over potential offensiveness and negative connotations.
Citing "growing concern and sensitivity" to ensure sure the campus remains "welcoming and inclusive..."
...Last spring, the Susquehanna University student government ran a poll among the student body with a squirrel winning by over 50 percent of the votes.
"I dont know if squirrels are exactly that presence that we needed," said Junior Paris Campbell to the student newspaper, also titled The Crusader.
Despite the petition and seemingly apathetic student body, the Board and President Lemons stand firm in the need to change the nickname and mascot to something that doesnt potentially conjure connotations that would offend someone.

Since they reject a name that they should associate with a moral conquest, than they deserve one that relates to surrender, defeat, and other labels that a victor would apply to the conquered, so I propose one of these:
The Victims
The Infidels
The Prisoners
The Slaves
The Outcasts
The Subjects
The Losers
My sister and two of my children graduated from SU.... I used to be a professor at SU. I know it well.. Excellent University...
Should have picked the nutty squirrels as a mascot!!! They are everywhere.
SU is mainly NJ students.... (No correlation to my mascot preference)
Gosh, I'm so sorry for my offense, but you should know better than to use an offensive sexist term like "coed".
I realize now that "Snowflake" should only be used to refer to what used to be known as "fairies". What they are called now I am unsure, so I checked this reference, and now I'm even more confused than ever, but I think the correct term would be "non-heteronormative male".
In your praise for L-M-T, just don’t scrawl the name LAZ in chalk anywhere I can see it. The snowflake in me will be offended.
This is inner Pennsylvania. We call the court clerk "the prothonotary." I've performed in reenactments using my own clothes.
They are now the “Dhimmis”.
Well then I'm obliged to say something nice. They do drink a lot less alcohol than the students at Bucknell.
Conquest.
More dhimmis born every day ...
LOL...Yes.. especially on band weekend... My wife and brother in law went to Bucknell.
I actually have a home on the edge of Bucknell next to the Christy Mathewson Stadium. Know both campuses well...
I migrated south though and have a second home midway between Duke and UNC where I am most of the time... I am not a basketball fan... Just love academia.
I tried to read the article to see if a new name had been chosen but a "security alert" popped up and wouldn't let me read the rest of the article.
“They do drink a lot less alcohol than the students at Bucknell.”
I was 26 years old when I lived in a private house across from the SU Library (they tore my house down to make the parking lot that is there now). Next door to me was a sorority house(where the admissions office is now). They were not allowed to have kegs on class nights so I would have a keg and they would have pitchers....
It was rough.. At the time I was only 26 and teaching full time at another university.
And rename themselves the SUSQUEHANNA HAT COMPANY!
“IS THAT A SUSQUEHANNA HAT! AGGH!”

River Hawks? Stupid name. It needs to be changed to Islamic Martyrs.
Ahhh yes, Pennsyltucky.
Just think how great this state would be if we could donate Philadephia to New Jersey and Pittsburg to Ohio!
I may have run into you. I have a place on the edge of BU also. Don't live there, just an investment and a handy place to park when I'm in the neighborhood.
The new nickname is Hawks. You know, hawk, like the audible effort to bring up a load of spittle? Imagine the possibilities for the cheerleading squad.
Here’s another article on the subject, gently mocking the administration.

News of the new nn came out today.
*hawwwwwwwwwwwwk!*
Isn’t the new name disrespectful of the chief of the Susquehanna Indians, Tomma Hawk?
