Ted Cruz supporters at this point are voting for the GOP Establishment to Choose the nominee.

There are only two choices remaining for how the GOP Nomination process goes.

There is no possibility of either Cruz or Kasich winning the nomination by delegate votes on the first ballot, so both of them are working to prevent Trump from reaching that threshold, and then hoping they are the choice of the open convention that results.

It's hard to handicap who walks out of Cleveland with the crown if we go in with Trump short of 1237 delegates.

What we do know is that the party is being extra-crafty to put party loyalists into as many of those delegate slots as possible. Some of those faux-Trump delegates may well support Cruz, but it's more likely that many are Romney era or even older GOP establishment types.

Do you know your county GOP chair? Those are the type of people who will be deciding the nominee in an open convention.

I think Cruz's chances of winning the nomination on a second or subsequent ballot are pretty poor. He's not loved by the GOP establishment, in fact some say he's liked less than Trump. Having pulled off a great political coup, with the open convention, you can be sure that the powers that be will not settle for Cruz.

This will be the golden opportunity to seat someone they really like.

My guess is Paul Ryan is that guy.

My serious question to Cruz supporters (and Kasich too if there are any here) is: do you prefer having the GOP Establishment pick the nominee to Trump?

And, secondly, if you will stipulate for the sake of discussion that Cruz is unlikely to be the guy, who do you want the GOP Establishment to choose?

I agree.

It’s either Trump, or a GOPe approved nominee. Cruz will NEVER get the nomination under any circumstance.

That’s what bought and paid for career politicians do. Protect the party above all else because ultimately that is what feathers their nests. Birds of a feather...

Cruz is merely the GOPe’s weapon of convenience against Trump.

You’re right, us Cruz voters should just give up and go home and stay there till the elections are over in November. Sounds like a good idea.

Cruz gets the nomination how?

As the two GOP front runners became clear, a lot of good people here have said: “I would choose A over B but in Nov I’d vote for either.”

It should be pretty obvious that Cruz will not be a choice in Nov.
So the choice is Trump or some establishment guy.

Why is this hard?

And Trump Supporters are voting for Hillary to be elected president. It would seem we’re at an impasse.

He doesn’t. Which is why us Cruz supporters should just give up and go home. . . And stay there.

CAN’T SEE MITCH AND PAUL LETTING CRUZ WIN THEY HATE HIS GUTS

IF TRUMP WINS MOST DELEGATES, EVEN IF A FEW SHORT, GIVEN THEY STARTED WITH 17 DELEGATES THE WHOLE THING WILL BE VIEWED AS RIGGED IF TRUMP DOESN’T WIN.

REMEMBER BECAUSE OF TRUMP 70% MORE VOTERS HAVE VOTED THIS YEAR.

WE WILL VOTE THE GOP LEADERSHIP OUT OF OFFICE STARTING WITH RYAN.

The last time a candidate didn’t have enough, was 1976. The convention boiled down to a contest between the no.1 and no.2 guys.

It might be that simple again. It might end up that only Trump or Cruz will be considered. Nobody can predict the future. The RNC would really do a lot of damage to the brand if they chose a third person.

The Trump logic is funny. On the one hand you guys try to paint Cruz as carrying the water for the GOPe. On the other hand, Cruz can’t wind because the establish hates his guts.

LOL. You guys contradict yourselves on FR to suit the argument you want to make. Cruz is either an outsider or not. Be consistent Trump guys. If your new argument is the establish hates Cruz, than Cruz can’t be one of them. Just saying.

That’s what you want though right? For us to stop voting for Cruz? So what other option does someone like me have except to just stay home? I’m sure as hell not voting for Trump or Clinton or Kasich or Bernie. So there’s that.

I'm not a Cruz supporter, but it's an interesting question. Who non-Cruz, non-Trump would we like to see running for president as a republican? I suspect they're all hoping ... Bush, Rubio, Kasich, Ryan, Romney.

Completely different scenario. There was no way the convention was going with a third candidate when one of the candidates was the sitting President. Today is completely different and the posters position is exactly right. It will be Trump or the GOPe's pick. That's it.
