Nor just how they will do it.
I would prefer windows to run under a Linus kernal so I would have the full power of Gnome 3 and some of its great packages.
Heard of this?
I use Umbuntu on Windows 7, virtualbox.
Microsoft’s push to Windows 10 has pushed me completely over to Linux. My computer works faster. I’ve discovered I can work with the latest version of Fedora without making any compromises in terms of hardware or application software. The user interface has markedly improved over the years, as well.
Windows 10 has nothing I want. Linux does it all.
I would think this would be the last thing MS would want. Just glancing at the issue, how does it help (read “increase revenue”, market share, etc.) MS?
Ernest- I had read somewhere ocne that ubuntu is going more mainstream and becoming more like windows inthat they are doing some of the same spyware crap that windows is now doing- I don’t know if this is true or not- I’ve asked around on the issue- but the best some say is “I’ve heard that too’ but can’t corroborate it- I’ve also read that peopel aren’t pleased with the direction ubuntu has been going lately-
again, I don’t know if any of this is true or not- it’s just what I’m running across online (I use linux mint as main os for all Internet work- and have windows 10 in dual boot which i do not allow access to Internet at all- I realize linux mint is a derivative of ubuntu- which is why I’m lookinf for an alternative- I would liek to use debian, but i can’t for hte life of me figure out how to download and install the few linux programs I like such as mouse gestures, drivers for vid card etc- I can’t figure out hte complicated synaptic package manager- I’ve had no problems installing those tights and others with the ubuntu software package- i just wish debian would go to something easier l iek that- at least have an easier version for newbies like me)
[[I would prefer windows to run under a Linus kernal]]
me too- I don’t like having to dual boot, and virtual machines don’t really cut it for the work i do in photoshop unfortunately-
Why?
I’ll stick with Linux Mint with a sprinkling of Cinnamon on top.
The biggest reason I haven’t gone to a linux OS for our laptops is compatibility with MS Word and Excel.
The apps used to work fairly well going back and forth between OS. Are they good enough now? I’d hate to sent a document to a client and have the formatting all hosed up when they open it in word.
That sounds like MacOS 10.0.
What revolutionaries they are at MS, 5~20 years late to the game.
I still geek with it, and with virtual box, its easier than ever, but there is just no reason for me to choose it over Windows. I do look forward, however, to this endevour, who knows what they might come up with.
It almost seems like I can download Cygwin and do the exact same things they are proposing developers do with this “embedded Ubuntu”.
I tried Win10 through the “Insider Preview” offer, experimenting with it from 12/15 until the public offering in July. got to really dislike it and wiped it off all my computers, replacing it with Ubuntu from then on. Now, doggone, Micro$oft wants to screw that up.
I have Lubuntu and Win 10 on a Laptop and I use Lubuntu 99% of the time
A number of months ago I switched from Xubuntu to a Debian with XFCE GUI install. I like it very much. And I like the fact that Debian has so many options of how to install it.
I liked Xubuntu, but was not happy that I had to do a hard drive wipe and reinstall to upgrade on my old package. So I just wiped drive and installed Debian instead. I think it was the right decision.
