Study: Juneau Ice Field to shrink if warming continues

A Rhode Island-size ice field in the mountains behind Alaska’s capital could disappear by 2200 if climate-warming trends continue, according to a University of Alaska Fairbanks study.

The study published this week by the Journal of Glaciology predicts 60 percent of the ice in the Juneau Ice Field could be gone by 2099.

The Juneau Ice Field is the source for a major Alaska tourist attraction, the Mendenhall Glacier, visited last year by 450,000 people at a U.S. Forest Service center. By 2099, the study authors said, the glacier’s ice will be harder to find. …

The National Park Services had a magazine article about glaciers which stated that glacial activity peaked in the 1850’s. Since then, glaciers in western north America have been in retreat.

Of course, the story has changed since everyone now knows that retreating glaciers are a result of a recent spate of global warming caused by an infinitesimal increase in atmospheric CO2 during the last 50 years.

That's nothing. Outside my home there is virtually no snow cover. The rains over the past couple days, coupled with a warm winter have left almost no snow on the ground.

The spotted darting snow gnats have all but disappeared and we fear temperatures will skyrocket to the 50's mid April. If we are still here.

If the climate will not stop changing, then we may have to do away altogether with the climate. Oh my God I think that tree has something green growing at the tip of one its branches. It's, yes, it's happening on more than one.

There is not a polar bear within hundreds of miles. They have all melted.

The researchers applied corrected climate data to a forecasting model and combined it with a glacier model developed by UAF researchers that has been used to make predictions for the Greenland Ice Sheet.

"Corrected data" and a model that predicts does not make science. It may be a theory but not proved by any real measure.

Unless it stops snowing every winter up there, it will be fine. I used to live in Juneau and there’s plenty of ice to go around at the upper elevations.

“predicts 60 percent of the ice in the Juneau Ice Field could be gone by 2099.”

That gives me 83 years to get there...not a problem.

Sometimes hong is really fishy when they close 2099 as the benchmark year. Normal people would choose 2100. Why 2099?

[[Study: Juneau Ice Field to shrink if warming continues]]

Yep- that’s what ice-fields generally do when the climate warms- just look at lake Michigan and lake superior etc- all formed when the climate warmed and the miles thick icefields melted-

Did they really need to spend American’s hard earned money ‘studying’ this already established fact that ice melts when it gets warm during natural cyclical warming periods? They could have just asked me and I would have been able to tell them the answer for far less money! Ice melts in warm climates

2200?, LOL.

Finally the Warmist Perps are wising up to the fact it's best to predict events occurring after your natural lifetime so as to avoid ridicule while you are alive.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
