That’s a good rule to follow. There’s nothing wrong with a credit card, but unless you’re in dire circumstances you should never charge more on it than you have in your checking account at any given time.
Some spending can be an investment (eg tools) that can have a large short and long term return....
A point well worth making. The same goes for the USA's 19 trillion and counting. We ought to throw congress in prison for massive grand theft.

Yep - we use our card for convenience and pay it all off each month. Practicing what you preach has made us debt free (own house and both cars - had a mortgage on the house which was paid off 14 years early and paid cash when we bought each of the cars) and enabled us to be comfortable in our retirement.
