One in seven American children aged 2 to 8 suffers from a mental, behavioral or developmental problem, federal health officials report.

Researchers analyzed data supplied by parents in the 2011-2012 National Survey of Children's Health, looking for reported speech and language problems, learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and more.

"Based on the number of kids affected, this is something we need to pay attention to," said lead researcher Jennifer Kaminski, team leader for child development studies at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The researchers found that young children with mental, behavioral or developmental disorders were less likely than others to have access to medical care that was family-centered, continuous, comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate and culturally effective.

No, teachers don’t demand the use of drugs for ADHD. They can’t ... it’s illegal for them to do so.

I often notice in our country, Japanese or Chinese young children with their parents in public places they are always well behaved compared to American children.

“I was brought to my attention Asian kids never seem to have these problems.”

They have plenty of stress problems brought on by an obsession with grades.

Can’t do that nowadays. Considered ‘abuse’. Kids only have to say “My mom/dad hit me”, and CPS and the sheriffs show up at your door. They take your kids away and...if you ever get them back...you’re watched for the rest of your lives.

So, we as parents are pretty much screwed.

The more students with disabilities, the fewer students to take the state achievement tests, thus helping the schools get an acceptable score. The parents profit by getting sizable government checks, and the schools get government subsidies to serve the special needs students while exempting them from testing. It is a mess, thanks to government bungling. There should be no federal government meddling in education.

Brain dysfunctions and all neurological conditions are way up. It reaches epidemic proportions. One in around 30 kids is on the autism spectrum: there is around one in each preschool class. Something is causing this. Yes, some are being found to be gene deletions etc. However, that doesn’t mean it is hereditary. Genetic differences can occur as mutations during embryo creation / pregnancy.

Yet the pediatric group in America is hoping pregnant women get MORE neurotoxic vaccines DURING pregnancy. Then the newborn infant gets hit up with many, many more.

Having a functioning brain is far higher a priority than avoiding measles or chicken pox.

Aside from the risks forced on babies by vaccines, plastics are highly suspect, as well as pesticides and other know neurotoxins. There have been studies that many young women who haven’t had babies yet have BPA and other plastics in their uterus already. That HAS to have an effect on the developing brain.

So many “food” items in the USA are laced with neurotoxins. Who knows what happens to embryos who meet up with these toxins in utero. Any artificial color harms the brain, as does MSG. These products are ubiquitous in American food products.

It’s not the parenting. It is much harder to parent kids with brain dysfunctions, even ADHD. Try not to blame the parents; that is blaming the victims.

Omg, guys. Spend time in a clinic for special needs kids in a part of town where there are lots of Asians. They are well represented with kids with disorders as well. There is no race of children spared.

I wonder what proportion of the "mental illness" is failure to discipline?

There's that. There is also the near-total reliance on technology. Kids are reduced to a zombielike state, and if they act out, it's a condition to be drugged away. Then there is the whole team-group approach. Some kids just need to be left alone. Some of the best-behaved elementary classes I encountered had corners with an easy chair, a real lamp, books, puzzles, stuffed animals to hug, crayons and paper. These are places where a child could be not surrounded by others and not have the pressure of scheduled activities. Then there are over-zealous teachers who don't want to be inconvenienced by children who act out, so they get them diagnosed with ADHD.

Add to that two other huge factors. One is the very unsolid idea that all children will master material at the same time it's taught. Newly acquired knowledge needs time to be absorbed and connected and coordinated with other things the kids know and experience. Then there's the lack of recess. Kids need unstructured but supervised play time. Then there's the crap they feed them in school breakfasts and lunch. In most places, it's body poisons.

The miracle is that there aren't more kids who go crazy.

The answer of course is for more homosexual parents. And, how about more sexual training in kindergarten? I know, how about more emphasis on gender confusion for toddlers!

We are destroying ourselves. We are rapidly descending into depravity. This is Romans 1 writ large.

The result of women drinking, smoking and using drugs just like men. Their eggs get damaged and their children suffer.

Keep in mind that even kids that are spanked do not want to lose their parents. So what we did was very simple - we told them that if they EVER mention spankings, they will get a BRAND NEW set of parents. You should have seen their faces.

Of my three nieces (Caucasion) one had ADD/ADHD.

My sister is a schoolteacher and believes that ADD/ADHD is way over-diagnosed, so she waited several years before allowing her daughter to be evaluated for any sort of meds. In this instance it made a dramatic difference, her attention span was no longer like a pinball machine bouncing all over. IIRC she only took the meds for a couple of years and once she was off them she no longer displayed the ADD/ADHD symptoms.

Not if you’ve seen real ADD.

One "advantage" of ADD/ADHD is that there is no objective diagnostic. No blood test, EEG, etc. Once the govt stopped reimbursing for ADD/ADHD a ton of "autism" cases magically appears. And that also has no objective diagnostic.

in the 60s me and my gang were incorrigibly raucous. Irish Dads were the most effective treatment for ADD/ADHD.

But the ability to imprint the need for self-control is now illegal thanks to those who cannot understand this "epidemic" of kids who "cannot" focus.
