Melissa Harris-Perry Explains What Went Wrong With Her Beloved MSNBC Show
Slate ^ | 3-15-2016 | Christina Cauterucci

Just before the new year, her executive producer told her he’d gotten word that the show was going to run the full length of its contract, through October.

Then, starting the second week of January, the show’s typical branding disappeared from the broadcasts, and no one at Melissa Harris-Perry knew why. There was no soundtrack, no Melissa Harris-Perry banners at the top or bottom of the screen, no color scheme on the graphics. At first, they thought it had something to do with the presidential primaries. Then, the show’s title went missing from the network’s internal database—there was just a placeholder for “politics” in its time slot. Though MSNBC never offered Harris-Perry and her staff an explanation, she says, it was easy to see what the network was trying to do:

"It was real clear to me at that point that we actually did not have a show."

According to the Slate article, she wanted to go on talking about Black Lives Matter, campus sexual assault, and Beyoncé. Then there was this:

The first major affront to Harris-Perry’s editorial control came on the weekend of the Super Bowl, when the show would traditionally air a segment on the sociopolitical aspects of the game and the football industrial complex.

So basically she wanted to use her air time at MSNBC to talk about topics that are taken seriously only by the super-far-left campus radical fringe. Except for the thing about Beyoncé, which is a topic I can only say would not benefit Ms. Harris-Perry to pursue.

MSNBC apparently wasn't willing to have their broadcast bandwidth and brand used for this purpose, and began dropping hints to MHP that they objected. She chose to not take the hints. In fact, she signaled that she would not cooperate at all.

She gave this signal to her immediate supervisor at MSNBC. He relented, and she took this as a sign that she had won. Actually, it was a sign that the supervisor didn't have the authority to fire her on the spot. She went on the air the next morning and discussed Beyoncé, a topic she was told not to pursue.

The ax fell immediately after that, although she wasn't formally terminated. Instead, she was "not invited back," and all mention of her "show" was scrubbed from MSNBC's air and computers.

The next week, she was told that her slot was now "The Place for Politics," hosted by someone else.

Note the use of the term "her slot." As if she owned it, held title to it, was entitled to it in some way. Kind of like when inmates in a state prison refer to their cell as "my house."

Guess what Missy? We have already forgotten about it. I’m fact, I never gave it any thought at all. Please go away.

She had so few viewers, they introduced the audience to the guests to save time.

LOL Best line of the night!

She had fewer people listening to her than listen to the taxi dispatcher in Glendive, Montana

I got that dude on my scanner feeds. He is a hoot! I usually listen in on Saturdays before the sports come on TV.

If you pulled ten thousand people from Iowa and showed her picture....there might be one person who could identify her. I think I’ve watched maybe ten minutes of show on one occasion. Whoever signed her up for MSNBC....was simply desperate for some ‘liberal’ and she was cheap enough for the time-slot.

Even msnbc couldn’t justify affirmative action for her with her ratings.
