I have been through several of the Free Republic "Silly Seasons", aka, the Republican presidential primaries. Every one of them is rough, but this is the worst one of all.
I'm guilty of being a dog, but even this dog can learn new tricks. Here is my proposal:
LET NO ONE SPEAK ILL OF ANYONE ELSES CANDIDATE. ONLY POST POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT *YOUR* CANDIDATE.
I think that would just about eliminate the rancor.
We won't get 100% participation. But heck, if we got even a fraction of that, Free Republic would be a lot nicer a place, in this, the worst of all "Silly Seasons".
I pledge to do this. Who else is on board? Chime in!
I think it would require administrative enforcement.
Anyway, my candidate’s yuuuge. It’s gonna be really great. We’re gonna win so much people will want to lose.
Ok now that’s just cray cray.
Next you’ll be telling me Browning shotguns are better than Saigas.
Only if we focus on the children! We got standards here!
Well, you were serious about this, and I applaud you for it!
I would have settled just to have one group of supporters stop insulting another group of supporters: Cruzers versus Trumpsters; Trumbots versus Cruzoids.
LOL! You managed to insult both groups! Well played!
I agree 100 percent.
“1911-A frame pistols suck. Glocks rule.”
I thought we were talking about opinions, not facts!
ALL PRAISE BE UNTO HIM!
I knew you were not an infidel. I just knew. :)
When I found FR in 2000, I could read the posts for hours before finishing. Now, it's a matter of 10 minutes.
And that smaller number of posts has diminished to pro-life and pro-Trump posts. You hardly see anything else here anymore.
The site's owner, Mr. Robinson , is, of course, entitled to steer it any way he wishes, but he must also accept a smaller viewership that requires a larger financial contribution per capita to keep the place alive.
I can't predict the future, but I doubt your sensible suggestion will influence it.
Well, as a Founder said, our system is meant for a moral people. No amount of law would constrain us if we were immoral.
Pe'haps that applies here too.
Thy candidate is a hampster, and his mother stank of elderberries!
(Am I doing this right?) :P
I must breathe my last gasp knowing I did my best for God and Country.
Well, to be clear, I was simply supporting your little jest.
“There are nine and sixty ways of constructing tribal lays,
“And every single one of them is right!”
Rudyard Kipling
In the Neolithic Age
Appropriate to this thread.
I will post it.
Ok, but if they are grown up and are sick and also they are somebody's child or once were a child, then it should still be OK. We Trump supporters have a need for flexibility. Also, if the person is very very old and frail and can't defend themselves, or for example someone who might die some day.
In the Neolithic Age
IN THE Neolithic Age savage warfare did I wage
For food and fame and woolly horses’ pelt.
I was singer to my clan in that dim, red Dawn of Man,
And I sang of all we fought and feared and felt.
Yea, I sang as now I sing, when the Prehistoric spring
Made the piled Biscayan ice-pack split and shove;
And the troll and gnome and dwerg, and the Gods of Cliff and Berg
Were about me and beneath me and above.
But a rival, of Solutré, told the tribe my style was outré
‘Neath a tomahawk, of diorite, he fell
And I left my views on Art, barbed and tanged, below the heart
Of a mammothistic etcher at Grenelle.
Then I stripped them, scalp from skull, and my hunting-dogs fed full,
And their teeth I threaded neatly on a thong;
And I wiped my mouth and said, “It is well that they are dead,
For I know my work is right and theirs was wrong.”
But my Totem saw the shame; from his ridgepole-shrine he came,
And he told me in a vision of the night:
“There are nine and sixty ways of constructing tribal lays,
“And every single one of them is right!”
Rudyard Kipling
If I disagree with a candidate, why should I not post about that?
I don’t see a lot positive about all of them, but there are some things I can hold my nose on.
