Is Donald Trump Creating a Mafia-Like Culture of Thug-followers?
Constitution.com ^ | March 14, 2016 | Rob Knowles

I’ve reached a breaking point with those who continue to defend Donald Trump’s endless brutishness.

If you went back in time a year, and asked Trump supporters if they would ever vote for a man who made fun of POWs, mocked the physically handicapped, compared another candidate to a child molester, and shifted positions as frequently as a fat guy in a church pew, they would have likely said “No.”

How did we get here? How did we get to a place where Trump’s rhetoric and behavior is not only accepted, but emulated?

Donald Trump is a master manipulator. He came on the scene as a single issue candidate, with no other discernible positions. This was a necessity, because it allowed voters to fill in the rest with their own magic markers; the needs and ideas of millions of voters built Donald Trump from scratch. That’s why attributing any coherent policy position to the man is like trying to nail jello to a wall. His deliberately ambiguous and transitory rhetoric acts as a sort of scaffolding upon which anything can be built. This is a dangerous thing when you have an incredibly angry electorate.

When you pour yourself into an empty vessel, that vessel becomes personally linked to you. It harbors your needs, wants, and ideals in a way that nothing else can. Ultimately, what people see in Trump is their own reflection. When you see yourself in such a candidate, you’re much more likely to justify, defend, and even emulate their behavior–no matter how deplorable.

Given this, it comes as no surprise that we’re beginning to see violence at Trump rallies. Donald himself has made numerous comments passively or directly condoning violence against those who defy him.

“Mafia-like thugs”

Actually, I just have a fantasy of being a casino owner. You have to have the persona of a mafia thug to play the part, however, and what’s wrong with that? I mean, what has society come to? Can’t boys like me have dreams anymore?

GO TRUMP!

Has there ever been a Presidential candidate as fascistic, dangerous, loathsome, and as devoid of any particle of a redeeming quality as Trump?????

IIRC, Ben Shapiro is 29. Jumped the shark and crashed and burned so young.

Shapiro is one of the smartest, most brilliant, most principles young conservatives out there. He is a true force of nature who has proven he can be counted on to lead the TRUE conservative movement. He knows how to savage the leftists and sniff out the phonies as well as anybody.

Whenever somebody in the Republican / Conservative movement invokes the Constitution, it's become a code word for surrender.

We can never NEVER fight back against the radical Left, because it would be "Un-Constitutional."

These people conveniently ignore the past 50 years. They ignore the thug tactics that has led to the rise of hardcore Liberalism.

FINALLY we have somebody that fights back (Trump), and all they do is whine about how he's not nice.

WELL SCREW THAT!

These p*ssy Constitution worshippers can go screw themselves. It's time to FIGHT BACK.

Yes, following the Constitution is such a bother for those who want one-man rule.

And how will Trump use that post-constitutional authority? To use taxpayer money to fund Planned Parenthood, to prop up the ethanol lobby, to impose import taxes to support his crony capitalist buddies, to use Eminent Domain to take property from middle class citizens and give it to his oligarch buddies, make sure all Federal land stays federal, because you can't trust the states or the people, to make sure the IRS stays in power, to make sure no-one's phone is safe from government snooping, and to make sure no one insults Islam, because that might provoke the jihadis to violence.

You're giving up the Constitution for that Big Brother agenda?

Not me. No way, no how.

If you can make the case the protestors were on Trump's payroll, you should do so. Now.

No wonder there’s so much punching people out at his rallies, which, by the way, he described as beautiful.

Of course there is.

How many Trump supporters have "punched people out" at his rallies?

A round number, even.

More naive childishness from a Cruz supporter.

The Constitution is a blueprint for how government works.

It is NOT a campaign plan! It's not a suicide pact!

Liberals have declared war on western Civilization. Cruz, his supporters, and other sissy "Conservatives" for decades have invoked the holy Constitution as their only defense.

A lot of good it has gotten us.

I heard Hillary's voice saying, "I am sick and tired of folks who support trump be cause he's a bad man and he says mean things. I'm not gonna take it anymore unless I fail to rouse others into action."

All in that grating and screechy voice.

The guy did the typical anti-Trump thing by making generalized statements w/o the original context and conditions of the situations. he can go kiss Hillary's arse - that's where his lips belong.

WTF?

The premise of this article belies your screen name. The “tolerant” GOP pantywaists are apparently the ideal “conservative” leadership.

And anyone who accuses victims of violence of being thugs displays a Chicago in January outside-temp IQ.
