There is a push - is there info about preventing an automatic unwanted “upgrade”?
My sister’s PC is still on Windows 7, that Windows 10 operating system installed weeks ago but since she doesn’t turn off her computer it hasn’t actually installed it..not sure if eventually she will be forced to do it. I went with Windows 10 back when it was released, was tired of not having a start button
I went to do my black Tuesday patches and the optional Windows 10 “upgrade” was already checked!!
Don’t set your older computer to update automatically if you want to put off switching to Windows 10.
I am currently hating windows 10 after doing a long overdue computer upgrade. I had been running vista. I literally can’t do basic stuff with this new windows 10. It is so confusing and ugly. I hate it!
Those idiots. They forced me to change to Windows 7 from XP less then two years ago and now they want me to change again?
Bastards.
Stepped away from my computer this morning; when I returned the Windows 10 upgrade was half done!
and users getting large bills for using several gigabytes of cellular data.
I have one system that runs Winblows, all the others run Linux. I considered filing a small claims suit for $40 for the 2 gigabytes it download over my cellular connection.
Microsoft deserves a Multi Trillion Dollar CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT as well as Federal Prosecution for this.
My secondary, older computer, was to upgrade to windows 10 on Friday, it failed...too good for me.
warned you this was coming.
they themselves said so.
updates you could not refuse.
and they could be anything, doesn’t matter.
Is anyone else having trouble comprehending the following sentences?
“The company has since published instructions for users who want to opt out of the upgrade. One method is to install the KB3065987 and KB3065988 updates that enable a new setting meaning Windows Update will not detect, download or attempt to install the Windows 10 upgrade.”
I’ve always liked 7, nice and clean, and finished looking by comparison with earlier versions. Of course, that was at work, and I’m not too sure we’ll be getting auto-upgraded anyway. Skipping 8 is a great idea, IMHO.
My computer automatically upgraded itself to Windows 10 last week. Whatever happened to mutual consent? It wasn’t a pleasant experience, but I’m getting used to it.
To anyone else who has to go through this, the hardest part for me was when I had to sign in with my password. The password wasn’t accepted by the usual means of clicking the circle next to it. Finally, I consulted my sister, who advised me to press ‘’Enter’’ and everything worked out okay.
Good luck to future unsuspecting inductees to the world of Windows 10.
I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows, but I didn’t see a little WindowsUpdate folder. So I added one manually, and put in the DisableOSUpgarde doubleword and set it to 1.
I am using Windows 7.
Will this work?
10,,,,,,,,,, not a chance. 3.1, 95, 98, XP Pro and tolerating 7. I’ll let tech users here get me on Linux/Whatsitcalled first. I was actually think of putting Linux on the used laptop I bought that has 7 but I thought I’d live with it for awhile. I just don’t to stumble around for a couple of months learning a completely unfamiliar interface.
Happened to me last week. After computer started “downloading,” turned computer off. Has not tried to “automatically” download since.
How do we stop that? I keep getting the Windows 10 nag prompt, but I don’t want it.
If it upgrades, can you reinstall 7?
From what I understand, such forced upgrades are a planned action by Microsoft. In preparation for this, the earlier version removed the ability for any driver or program to detect the OS version. The result is that MS can now control and force upgrades, no matter what the consequences. Only after the upgrades will a user know what hardware/software won’t run. By then it is too late.
I took the plunge to do what I postponed for years: I installed Fedora 23 Linux. Be move I’ve made in years. I won’t look back.
I started to download it until I read that updates were now mandatory. Many an update caused havoc on my PC.
I stopped the dowload.
