I went to do my black Tuesday patches and the optional Windows 10 “upgrade” was already checked!!
Don’t set your older computer to update automatically if you want to put off switching to Windows 10.
That was actually a petty annoyance I found when installing the Opera browser as well: it installed an automatic new-version-check entry into the repositories list which I had to disable since I do not like when companies assume that of course I would always wish to check for new products from them.
I can do that quite well without any prompting, thanks so much.
Can someone explain in non-technical terms why Microsoft is pushing so hard for Windows 7 users to upgrade to Windows 10. What’s in it for them? I must get three or four pop-up messages a week asking me to upgrade from Windows 7, but I’m not inclined to do it. Windows 7 serves me well, all my drivers work, so why fix it if it ain’t broke?
I set my Win 7 machine to check for updates, but allow me to choose which ones to download. Since doing that, I haven't had a single update alert from Microsoft.
A few days ago, I just went ahead and updated my machine without checking the list of updates (couldn't find a list anyway), and it did so. Now I've got an icon on my desktop called, "Home Group". Seems it's part of Windows 10 ..... grrrrr.
