The Truth about Trump
www.freerepublic.com ^ | 12 March 2016 | impimp

China and other countries want to sell me goods at a cheap price. Trump wants to put a stop to that in order to appease the visible victim, the angry unemployed widget worker. The invisible victims are much greater in number and any tariff or "fair trade" is awful for them. Who in their right mind complains when something is getting sold at a cheap price?

It is time to put America first and stop Trump from increasing the price Americans pay for foreign goods.

And, besides, manufacturing useful widgets is also honest work which produces the bread of those who make them.

impimp must believe the bread will just fall out of the sky for the people that aren’t in tech or finance.

Yes, I know manna did fall from the heavens for Moses and the Israelites. Maybe that’s what impimp believes will happen?

Finance and tech are not low paying.

I DON’T CARE ABOUT FAIR TRADE. I want cheap stuff. “Fair Trade” is the rhetoric that people use before tariffs go up. Tariffs up = very bad

I would prefer a trade deal that put a 100% tariff on US goods/0% tariff on foreign goods to a deal with 100% tariff on US goods/100% tariff on foreign goods.

How about before we sign on for all that, we’ve got jobs for Americans that have worked in manufacturing all their lives? Do you want them living in 3rd world conditions or do you want to pay all their bills? That’s how it’s going to be for so many Americans that don’t qualify for your fiancé and high tech world. And, honestly, most won’t qualify for your service economy.

You sound like you were so in awe of some know-it-all college professor. Anything he/she said had to be right. I knew a lot of those PhD kinds too and most had little success outside their little world.

We had fewer jobs in manufacturing every year since 1980. We’re not better off and more secure as a nation for it.

Why do you hate Chinese people?

Your obsession with “cheap stuff” condemns them to live their lives in poison earning subsistence wages.

Apple’s FoxConn factory dormitories have fences around the roofs to prevent the workers from suicide-by-jumping.

If first-world countries had tariffs on imported Chinese products to end the environmental and low-wage arbitrage, the Chinese government would have an incentive to clean their mess and pay their workers more.

But, that would mean you wouldn’t get to buy “cheap stuff”.

You would prefer that the Chinese people bathe perpetually in a toxic stew of industrial waste, for subsistence wages, so you can buy “cheap stuff”.

You are a despicable excuse for a human being.

Enjoy your iPhone, manufactured by cheap slave labor.

Wise man. Wasn’t it said we would be destroyed from within. I guess I am glad I am old and won’t live in any America TOTALLY destroyed by greed, apathy and laziness. We took pray out of schools, killed our unborn, paid people not to work, tolerated America being bad mouthed to our youth and wonder what happened. May God forgive us!

Just in case you were not aware of it, farriers themselves still exist, just not as many. But this is really a very stupid comparison. Technical innovations were the cause of their job loss, whereas, textile workers are losing their’ jobs due to lower wages being paid.

Your arrogance is too much for a low information Trump supporter with extensive investments.

It is his type thinking that has done so much to destroy our nation. He has no regard for working class people. He’s out of touch with reality. His type thinking is what we’ve been getting from Washington DC for decades. It is why this nation is in such decline.

Perhaps, we should consider a kinder and gentler version of Hoover era and Eisenhower era taxes that, instead of taxing all highly paid folks at 90% +, would limit that level of taxation to investment bankers and their ilk. MOST AMERICANS WON'T CARE and might even think of it as payback to the trust fund babies for the fact that the trust funders DID NOT CARE ABOUT FAIR TRADE and only wanted "cheap stuff."

When tariffs go up, whatever the drawbacks, only those with actual incomes pay. Those who do without do not pay. A lot of Americans have been learning to do without for far too long.

Trump's candidacy and its success to date are a measure of the stage which has been attained by American anger in the pressure cooker of the economic conditions that our "investment bankers" and other elitists have created. If success is snatched from the jaws of victory by the elite buying another nomination, next time there will not be a choice between Trump and Cruz against Hillary but something looking more like an alliance between the Trumps, the Cruzes and a new, younger and more effective version of Bernie Sanders. It will more resemble the French Revolution than the original American Revolution.

Each and every day, the wisdom becomes clearer of JFK's observation: "Those who make peaceful evolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable."

I’m glad I took a chance on listening to this link. Trump starts around the 22 minute mark. Not what I expected at all. Thanks for sharing.

Countries extort technology and jobs and intellectual property from the U.S via this so called Free Trade.

Yep. And I come from generations of tax payers that have funded R&D grants to colleges and universities as well as funding NASA. I believe that since we funded the technology, we deserve at least FAIR TRADE.

impimp has a middle finger for all the poor families that cannot get a good gig in finance or tech. He is very much like the establishment republicans and democrats that have put our nation in decline.

There is a utility in Detroit (water company, perhaps?) that kept at least one farrier on the payroll even after they got rid of all their horses.

Those things are cheaper as long as you have a job. But where does money come from to pay you for your job? From wealth production. Most wealth production comes from manufacturing, farming, and natural resource extraction. If you want to turn the US into nothing but farms, mines, and oil & gas wells, fine. But when you have no money, those goods from China will not look cheap any more.

(I don’t include intellectual property like software creation in wealth production, since the Chinese don’t recognize copyrights or patents, anyway.)

Enjoy the decline.

Yes, it is all about me...

But, again, just name one country anytime in history which improved its lot by significantly increasing tariffs on a large percentage of foreign imports.

That has to be one boring job, LOL. Perhaps he is loaned out to the horse mounted police as needed. Having a job where you do nothing may sound attractive to some, but it would drive me crazy, and rather quickly I might add.

We don’t need to “significantly increase tariffs on a large percentage of foreign imports”.

We need to increase tariffs to remove the incentive for import of products manufactured by slave laborers living in poisoned hell.

I hope you see a vision of slave laborers, living in a poisoned hellhole, forcibly restrained from suicide, every time you use your cheap iPhone.

The mounted police probably have their own farriers.

Given it’s a government agency, there’s probably a farrier for each hoof of each horse.

Would those workers be better off working or not working in these poisoned hellholes you speak of?
