Doctors and lawyers are in the top echelon when it comes to pay.

But as a new report from Glassdoor shows, there are plenty of other routes to high earnings that don't involve litigating or blood.

"This report reinforces that high pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills, higher education, and working in jobs that are protected from competition or automation," says Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor's chief economist. "This is why we see several jobs within the technology and healthcare industries."

Based on salary reports shared by employees with these jobs on Glassdoor over the past year, here are the 25 high-paying jobs in the US, the current number of job openings, and what these people do:

25. Information systems manager

Not seeing Elementary School Principals — they make $95K per year.

A disgruntled ex-employee (must have been) in my county published the salaries of all employees in the whole school district. Administrators make $200K plus.

It was on the internet and free for anyone to download. I found it doing a google search on a retired teacher.

A person with just a HS education can earn $150-$200k per year by obtaining a Cisco CCIE certification.

They can acquire that certification by home study and working in the field, or by building their own home lab.

If they become independent contractors they can make $125/hr in any city in America.

There are several thousand current openings.

Today , CCIE certification holders represent less than 3% of all certified Cisco professionals and less than 1% of the networking professionals worldwide.

I wondered about that although I was concerned that it might not be legal.

BTW, my wife works in the same school district and she now knows how much all of her coworkers are making. If it is public info, I wonder if she can use it as leverage when review time rolls around.

There are a lot of uneducated and educated city employees where I live who make more money than that. We have city librarians retiring with six figure pensions.

"How much does a CCIE cert cost?"

For books and testing, about $4k.

Plus a 130 IQ and 20,000 hrs.

It takes as much effort and study as a MS degree, but the cost is minuscule in comparison. Additionally, much of that 20k hrs of learning is on the job while getting paid.

There are 3 basic levels...CCNA, CCNP and CCIE. They are obtained sequentially.

Typical pay for the CCNA is $40k/yr. CCNP around $100k...then the big prize if one can cut it, the CCIE.

Why would anyone go to college?

Cost isn’t that bad.... looks like around $2000 to $7000 plus the home lab of around $10K unless you can get your employer to cover the expense.

Any smart person who works hard can obtain one.

They are rare because it's sooo friggin' difficult, like MSEE.

I am an IT architect, and I can truly say that I never expected to make what I make. Then again, I've paid my dues for almost 30 years, so I don't feel one bit guilty.

I could go independent and double what I make, but then I'd have to put up with obamaworld and governmental overreach.
