I was born on a USAF base (Pepperrell AFB St. John's NFLD Canada) and of course my father was a US citizen at the time. He was actually born in Kentucky. We moved to Myrtle Beach AFB when I was around six months old.
I barely remember when I was very young, maybe around five or six having to perform some kind of ritual declaring my allegiance to the US. I have some form declaring my citizenship at that date. I had to get it out a few weeks ago when my son joined the NC National Guard to verify I was a US citizen.
So how come I was not a US citizen until I took the oath even though I was born of a US citizen on a US AFB in Canada, but Ted Cruz was one immediately at the time of his birth.
If I had know I was eligible to be President of the Unites States, I would have perhaps became a lawyer or maybe a community organizer. .
Neither do you apparently
If your father was a US citizen then you were a US citizen at birth.
Did your father register your birth at the consulate. The military usually requires its members to do that as you would have needed a visa to stay in country.
I've seen reports that his mother was registered to vote in Canada at the time, seeming to indicate she may have become a Canadian citizen. I don't know the veracity of the report. Of course there are people in this Country voting that aren't citizens.
Step Daughter born in Japan on Military base, had BC’s from both the Embassy and Japan. And a US passport at 3 days old.
My daughter has one of those. I remember having to get that a week after she was born nearly 16 years ago.
The requirement is for the candidate be a Natural Born Citizen.
What was the citizenship status of your mother?
Different laws? Immigration and citizen status have changed a number of times since 1950
There is a difference between ‘Natural Born Citizen’ and ‘naturalized citizen’:

Naturalized citizen:
Also found in: Dictionary, Thesaurus, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia.
NATURALIZED CITIZEN. One who, being born an alien, has lawfully become a citizen of the United States Under the constitution and laws.
2. He has all the rights of a natural born citizen, except that of being eligible as president or vice-president of the United States. In foreign countries he has a right to be treated as such, and will be so considered even in the country of his birth, at least for most purposes. 1 Bos. & P. 430. See Citizen; Domicil; Inhabitant.
A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States. By John Bouvier. Published 1856.
It was true, Obama’s mom was a citizen but didnt meet the other criteria to pass the birth right to bam bam.
No John McCain was born on what was at the time US Territory. A militarily base is not considered US soil for the purpose of citizenship. A territory is considered US soil.
I think some of the controversy about obama’s mother is that she was not under the jurisdiction of the United States for at least five years as an adult.....she was seventeen when obamunist was born, hence, no adult jurisdiction to confer on the baby.
Just because you say it doesn't mean it's true.
>>> If this were true, then there never would have been any controversy about Obama.
The controversy over Obama centered around his birthplace, when it should have centered around his father’s citizenship.
The media not only suppressed this controversy, but kept it focused on something that could not be proven, verses something that could.
Don’t think for a second that the corrupt forces in place that protected Obama from being disqualified will also protect Cruz. If Cruz is able to somehow attain the GOP nomination, watch how fast America gets a crash course on the truth of what “natural born” means.
It won’t matter what Obama got away with.
What will matter is that Cruz WILL be disqualified... by the same people who protected Obama from it.
No double Standards. This is not about equality but about what is right and wrong.
It is not because you got unfairly treated that others should be unfairly treates, though it is popular thought in Bernie Sanders circles.
I have never heard of a 6 year old making an oath like this either. Utterly ridiculous. What happens is you have dual citizenship until 18 and then you take an oath for one.
Is this a troll measure post?
All the lawsuits have been thrown out, just like with Bambi. Only a few Trump supporters believe it.
“I had to get it out a few weeks ago when my son joined the NC National Guard to verify I was a US citizen. “
My parents didn’t need to show anything about themselves for me to join the military. They didn’t know I was going to. Told them after it was a done deal.
becoming less relevant.
Trump will be the nominee.
Cruz needs to spend the next 4 or 8 years gaining clout or making friends in the Senate, so that they will do that snappy resolution that they did for McCain and obama which ensured that they were Constitutionally qualified.
Seems that would put the mattter to rest.....for next time.
(And Cruz will be back).
What year?
I think the rules changed at some point. Sounds like you had dual citizenship.
Pot, meet kettle.
