Bank of America Merrill Lynch is cutting jobs in its global banking and markets business on Tuesday.
The job cuts have already taken place in Asia, and they are working their way across time zones to Europe and now the US, according to people familiar with the matter.
Arnaud Droitcourt, head of equity trading in Asia Pacific, and Robert Grillo, head of fixed income e-sales, are among those to have left, according to Bloomberg.
A spokesman for Bank of America declined to comment.
Business Insider reported last month that the bank had asked senior executives some weeks ago to draw up a list of positions that could be cut, only to go back and ask for more names.
The cuts are likely to be over 5% of the staff, the people said then

Peasant underlings.
The senior management will be untouched in all likelihood.
Just watched Margin Call again a couple of weekends ago.
Who needs people when computers will do just fine? And best of all they don’t demand end-of-the-year bonuses!
That’s the exact logic the elites have in mind when they talk about ‘ideal population of no more than 500 million for planet earth’.
The layoffs are spreading all over the place; big ones too..
“Today reports are coming in that big layoffs across the United States are underway, likely one-third of the U.S. workforce, according to one soon-to-be-laid-off IBMer. “
reported last week..
Just plain ol' peasants today. I hope they invested well. There's always SYSADMIN or Real Estate school, one would suppose.
sysadmin has been outsourced to h1b’s from elsewhere.
hopefully they invested well.
and have no kids under 26.
or house notes.
etc.
It’ll be a few more than that, really. Somebody’s got to cook the French fries.
You got a point there...
That’s going to be automated going forward too.
Go long cardboard box.
That’s where there’s growth in the future. These peasants will have to live somewhere.
Go long ‘highway overpass’. That’s where the cardboard boxes will begin to appear.
Eventually our rapidly growing peasant class will be legally bound to a specific low level job or to a specific plot of land. Such legal binding happened to the Roman under class near the end of the Roman state. No known reason as to why Western Society will not go the same route as the classical.
We won’t have the land either. They want all the land. ‘People free (meaning ‘us’)’ too. It’s what Agenda 21 and now Agenda 2030 is all about.
They don’t want us to be serfs. They just want us gone.
They plan on just killing us or letting our numbers dwindle through attrition via planned barrenhood and ‘alternative lifestyles’ decreasing the fertility rate.
What you state could be a more sophisticated method of ultimate control. However, there will always be a need for very low level tasks and the peasant/serf class will spring into being to satisfy those needs. They will be legally bound to the task in question.
Why do you think the elites are so heavily invested in AI and robotics?
Fired employee: “Oh, yeah? What about the $6 million in cash and securities in my brokerage account?”
Same thing happens in communism/socialism. I had the opportunity to work with a former steel mill honcho from the eastern bloc. He said the state mandated your factory output each year and the trick was to produce just a little more than the mandate.
Too little production and you lost your job and your state-supplied apartment. Too much and they expected you to do more next year and the other factory managers put a target on your back for making them look bad and increasing their workload. It was no-win for everybody and the economy never produced the correct levels of anything for the people.
Every family was given an apartment; there were no homeless. But, they didn’t own the apartment nor the land. Make yourself as invisible and compliant as possible and you’d be OK.
The communists dictated all aspects of life, including what you did for a living. Another man I know wanted to be a pianist but they had enough pianists, so he was assigned to the violin. He’s been successful as a violinist and conductor but it was under duress for life until he was about 50 years old.
Bravo.
Actually they want more than half the planet rewilded, and us in stack n pack apt buildings.
Land ownership is socially unjust.
