Cruz Triumphant
The National Review ^ | March 4, 2016 | David French

Posted on 03/04/2016 11:31:55 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Tonight was the night when I could clearly see Ted Cruz as President of the United States. He made the right moral judgment — dealing with Donald Trump was far more important than jockeying for position with Marco Rubio or John Kasich. He made the case against Trump in the right way — he was civil even as he eviscerated Trump again and again. And he connected with the audience not just with his command of the facts, but also by making his case in an effective, human way. When he asked the audience how many had been waiters or waitresses, I had to smile. Both my wife and I spent more than our fair share of time bringing ice tea to thirsty customers, and the notion that waiting tables — even for a season – is a job Americans won’t do is absurd.

But I can’t praise Cruz without also praising Marco Rubio. Their nonaggression pact was clear. It is an extraordinarily difficult thing for political rivals to choose not to attack each other, but both Rubio and Cruz made the right decision. They both kept their eye on the ball, and in so doing kept hope alive in the quest to save the conservative movement and stop Trump.

Regarding Kasich, his performance was cheap and cowardly. Anyone can look statesmanlike when they opt out of a necessary fight. By choosing to cast himself as above the fray, he created a false moral equivalence between Trump, Rubio, and Cruz, and he transparently curried favor with viewers weary of conflict. With every passing moment, he is staining his legacy and his reputation. At a crucial moment, Kasich chose to be — first and foremost – for Kasich. Shame on him.

Finally, there is much more to be said about this, but words cannot express the contempt I felt for Trump’s insistence that the military would follow his unlawful orders to murder women and children. There are men who’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice rather than kill the innocent, yet he pretends our warriors would simply salute and follow orders when told to kill women and children for the sole purpose of punishing terrorists. Trump is sadly mistaken. If he won the White House and tried to implement his “policy,” the military would refuse to comply — because it has honor, because it respects the law, and because it knows the lessons of history. No order can justify an atrocity.

Trump did an impression of a despot not a U.S. Constitutional president.

I don’t fault Limbaugh for being for Cruz. If that is his choice so be it. The way he is doing it looks like he takes the listeners for idiots. He wants to tell us what to think and that is vote for Cruz but at the same time he wants to pretend he is impartial. That won’t work.

Better to simply endorse. Lose a chunk of his audience and the audience remaining will be all in and he can preach whatever he wants.

Or is it he likes the gravy too much so he will string along all the non Cruz believers so he can benefit from their advertising support?

As I said better to come clean and endorse the guy and make a little less money. That would be the conservative thing to do.

I thought Cruz was way too condescending since coming in second or third in each debate, does not confer superiority. His “count to ten, Donald”, “I know it’s hard, just breathe Donald”, and “try not to interrupt” and on, and on, and on. That “superiority” thing puts me dead off any politician. I used to like Cruz, but still feel he has ineligibility issues. Now, I don’t even like him. Smart doesn’t equate to likeability and compassion, Ted! No wonder your mates in Congress can’t abide you.

Yeah, sure, they said the same thing about Patton and I’ll take Patton on my side any day.
Washington has become just like the Vichy government. It has sold out America to the enemy, the New World Order.
Trump gave the impression of someone fighting FOR America. You Vichyites can take a flying leap....I’d suggest off the Washington Monument.

Not once have I made an appeal to GUILT, only INTELLECT. Emotion often TRUMPS intellect, tragically. I notice you don’t answer why we should trust Trump after he supported Rotten and Kerry for President. His court will be a disaster, in line with Maobama’s.

Patton would have a made a horrible president as well. Better than Trump, but not at all suited for it either.

Trump is not only not suited, but his policies would be extremely damaging to the republic - its constitution and, very quickly, its economy.

I do get that it is nationalism that appeals to you.

But nationalism is not necessarily conservatism, not necessarily a constitutional republic with rule of law not men.

It can be, and often has been neither, and sometimes socialism, tyranny, corporatism...

Nationalism is not enough.

Nationalism is what we had bundles of in WW II. We WON that one, remember! This country has been stripped of patriotism, nationalism, our sovereignty, our culture, even our Constitution. A vote for Rubio or Cruz is a vote for the New World Order.
Either you are an American, or you aren’t. The only LEADER on the stage is Trump. He has the talents and tools to bring this country back from the brink of damnation. But then of course, the soft pattsies and pansies of the new world order can’t allow that to happen. America must FALL for the NWO to RULE! What side are you on?

Something tells me that once elected Trump would suddenly become more GOPe than McConnell, Hatch, Ryan and Olympia Snowe combined.

He is compelled to appear effective, and lacking an ideological core, and that has to be clear by now, this would be the easiest route.

That’s not a question of trust or not. He was a private citizen and free to make that decision or not.

I dont even know who “rotten” even is, but If Trump is sincere about actually wanting to improve the nation as he said he wants to, and is willing to go through all of this for the chance, then that speaks more to me than 2 new senators looking for a fast upgrade to the White House.

“His court will be a disaster, in line with Maobama’s”

Cruz supported Roberts. Why should I trust him? And please dont say he was fooled.

Rotten is Hillary Rotten Clinton, to whom Trump gave money 10X, including 4X in her presidential run in ‘08.
Cruz did NOT choose Roberts. Roberts sucks, but he is infinitely better than any Rotten or Kerry pick would have been. BUSH picked Roberts, and it was Cruz’ job to defend the pick after the fact.
Your post includes stunning rationalizations for a very bad candidate.
