Brings back memories.

Decades ago, previous generations of relatives lived in Anacostia in Southeast Washington. I know, hard to believe now.

But they moved out in the late ‘50s as the area changed, and ended up in Clinton, Maryland, in Prince George’s County. But then as the years went by, and court ordered busing began, and Prince George’s County changed, the family members moved again. Some moved to Charles County, and a few moved way out to Frederick, Maryland, and Charles Town, West Virginia.

Haven’t been back that way in a long time. Don’t know if there are any decent areas of Prince George’s County remaining. But even if you live in a decent area of that county, you will still have a dysfunctional local government and dysfunctional school system.

we are #17 and the police chief and Sheriff are discounting this report. Yes, compared to Chicago these punks are low rent but as the populace is concerned It’s True, It’s True. Gang Rivalry murders, gang initiation murders ( shoot a old person to get your creds)Governor Barbour (spit on the ground)at least enacted the Castle Doctrine law here in our state but that is really so the citizens can render justice. Our last corrections commissioner is getting used to the prison food by now and as most of the killing is done by youths who as we all know youths who could be Obama kids are not to be incarcerated. So repeating the crimes are needed to get their cred time in the penitentiary. A vicious circle sir, and not healthy for the older light skinned gentry.

Color me shocked that Chicago isn't on the list.

(No pun intended on the "color me shocked" part of my comment ....)

Where’s Chicago or Cook County?
No kidding!

Since they are listing entire counties here, apparently the murder rate for Cook County overall is not high enough to include here. I’m sure the murder rate for suburban Cook County is far lower than the rate for Chicago itself, so the overall rate may just be in the middle somewhere.

Yeah, I guess since Chicago’s population is so high, then their per capita rate would be lower.

WOO-HOO! We're #1! We're #1! In your FACE, New Orleans!

Actually, I live in St. Louis County, not St. Louis City. Because so many of the law-abiding folks have moved out of the city and into the county, that's what skews the crime statistics so high within the city limits. And even within the city limits, the high crime is concentrated in one-half of the city.

It does not surprise me that Chicago and Cook County do not make the list. The reason is the very high population of the city and the county, and this list is based on crime RATE. While there may be many crimes in terms of absolute numbers, because of the population, the crime rate is not that high. There are many safe areas and neighborhoods. I grew up in a neighborhood in the city of Chicago that was perfectly safe, with no crime whatsoever. The crime is concentrated in certain areas. As in any city, you gotta know your neighborhoods. Some are safe, some are dangerous, some are a little dicey.

BTW, today is Chicago's birthday! The city was incorporated on March 4, 1837.

I live in St. Louis now, but Chicago will always be my beloved hometown!

Hunt county, texas does not even have a hundred thousand pop.
I saw they had a Mexican gang member stab two black guys to death in November. Maybe there was a multiple killing there last year like three or four at once.

This study was based on 50,000+ county population. And apparently, Greenville, TX is a high crime area. Much higher than the state average.

I can understand why. I used to travel there for business … loved it. But I never had to go there during winter. Perhaps that would change my mind. :-)
