The liberal way....elitists who are highly paid that don’t really do anything.
Go to a JC.
No one really cares if you went to some big name college...
College has gone up 1000% since 1980 for one reason, and one reason only. Eighteen-year olds are dumb and student loans are easy to get. The students will borrow whatever the college tells them they need. Colleges have been exploiting them for decades.
Fix it? Just stop the state and federal subsidies and they’ll have to compete again.
Pay professors what E1s make.
Because it’s government subsidized, get rid of government guaranteed student loans and see how quickly tuition rates fall.
End tenure, and make professors actually teach.
Grade them on quality of publications, not number of published papers, so they don’t demand so much time for useless research.
End cost shifting. Everyone pays the same rate barring scholarships. But routine cost shifting to all minorities raises tuition for the rest.
Abandon the facilities arms race to build sports and recreation facilities that rival luxury resorts. No college needs a climbing wall or on site spa.
Eliminate remedial classes. If you need those classes, go back to community college instead of paying premium prices and taking up a slot that could go to a more qualified student.
Eliminate the sympathy gimmicks with international students, where they are brought in supposedly to pay a higher rate than in state tuition to subsidize others and then get scholarships, grants and work study positions at the cost of taxpayers to make it more fair. I’ve witnessed this personally.
Stop rewriting the text books every two or three years to prevent their reuse. This is true for K-12 schools as well.
Eliminate useless courses. It is a sin and should be a crime to take taxpayer money to teach a class on modern pop stars as literature and force many students to take out un-bankruptable loans to earn useless credits. This could be expanded to eliminate all but a few ethnic and gender studies courses, because the degree is essentially useless in the workforce but for a few community organizers.
Encourage freshmen to pick a field of study and give them career counseling on the opportunities (or lack thereof) based on that field of study.
Allow more transference of AP and CLEM credits, as well as credit by exams.
Online education. Do away with professors and books. Increased competition.
Or Trump University. It’s only $30,000.
Fire all the current admins and lower the pay for new ones and get rid of those worthless courses along with the teachers. No state or federal loans. The students have to get their own from private business who will only give to those that take courses that have a chance of making decent money so the loans can be paid back. Plus remove any student who decides to protest along with the teachers who put them up to it.
Boycott. Stay out of debt. Become more self-sufficient. Begin a lifetime of regular self-study with an aim toward independent business.
Get rid of all the liberal arts departments, and all the sports teams.
I decided to share my opinion before reading the article.
The absolutely finest way to improve education at all levels is competition but first the government must get out of the way of education.
Now I can read the article.
