There is a much bigger issue at stake here than whether or not Trump will or even can change libel laws if elected.

If web sites like FR are held responsible for all comments made by posters, then they would have to have sufficient staff to monitor/review/delete all offensive comments.

This would put a big burden on sites like FR and require them to have to pay a sufficiently well-sized staff or hope for an equal number of volunteers to step up.

And even if there were enough folks to do the monitoring, whether or not a particular post went over the line would not always be an easy question.

The end result will be that only ad-sponsored sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. would have sufficient revenues to remain legal.

It would be another case of the legal system being commandeered in favor of economic incumbents (e.g. crony capitalists) over entrepreneurs.

A little information on the aforesaid Richard Warman. He was employed by the Human Rights Commission of Canada. He had attempted to shut down websites for "hate speech". He pointed to scurrilous hateful posts by persons and left on these sites. A forensic check on the posts found they seemed to be from a computer of a young woman. She was horrified. Further checks indicated Warman had sent them HIMSELF and somehow the same ISP was used.

Warman fessed up. The Law Society of Canada then issued the statement that this was "disturbing". No action taken.

Goodbye FR was my first thought. Let alone the lawsuits against individuals posting. Lovely, eh?

Perhaps only if a liberal USSC uses foreign laws or legal rationale to support its decisions. (/snort)

Mark and Connie would obviously know what happened better than anyone else, but Peter Libra in his post #24 relates what they were up against the whole time. Haven’t heard of too many leftie sites being shut down by the government. Hmmm ...

In the end, though, the result is the same and not undone — FreeDominion is shut down permanently.

I don’t recall another candidate whining about unfair press treatment and threatening them with more relaxed libel laws if he is elected. That is not a good omen.

Canada was at one time a nation of warriors. Men volunteered for the four year hell hole of World War I. In WW II, men were quick to volunteer when it began in 1939.
But now, many men are ever so sensitive metrosexuals. They will not defend their women nor their adopted children (too dainty to make any themselves).
These sissies are fine with having no rights to bear arms, no right to free speech, no right to freedom of religion. Even a gay man will defend his lover. But not the metrosexuals.
And thanks to the so called Conservative government of Harper, privacy rights are gone as well so the polis and milicia can now do searches without warrants. When liberty loving conservatives complained about this outrage, the response from the Conservative Party Brain Trust was ‘Don’t you trust our Glorious Leader?’
Even if one trusted Harper 100%, the question arose: What happens if he loses the election? ‘He will not lose the election!’, answered the Brain Trust. He lost the election.
And now the Liberals Leader, a prissy scold and busybody, has the full authority to have the police do searches without warrants and well if nothing is found, plant something.
The framed person will go broke defending themselves and have their reputation trashed in the process.
Canada, led by girly men, metrosexuals and sissies.
The girly men are not going to have a nice time when school marm Trudeau floods their country with gay hating Religion of Peace military aged young men from the Middle East.
Just once I would like to see the so called leaders like Angela Merkel and Justine Trudeau get direct treatment from their refugee pals. ‘But we wuv you..’’Spread your cheeks, kafir!’
