I understand Trump is a candidate who has taken the election cycle by storm and I understand his allure. IIRC, I thought Ted Cruz was the favorite candidate here on Free Republic because of his conservative views. What has happened that Cruz is a figure of derision here? I understand Jeb! and Rubio and other mains stream Republicans being poo-poo'ed. Is Cruz getting slammed merely because he is running against Trump? Last night's thread was like stumbling into an alternate Freeperverse. Another question is: If you weren't supporting Trump, would you support Cruz?
For me personally, that is a sad fact to accept. I was hoping to see a Trump/Cruz ticket, which would have been unstoppable, and would have set Cruz up with the experience and street cred he would need to take over in 2024.
Really, we both know that? Link me to an article that shows the first time Cruz “attacked” Trump.
Here’s an article that says the exact opposite: http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/11/politics/donald-trump-ted-cruz-iowa-ethanol/
Face it, Trump is allowed to attack Cruz all he wants (including making things up out of thin air), but if Cruz says anything about Trump, including repeating his own words (regardless of how long ago they are), Cruz is a nasty liar and a baby.
I was initially for Cruz when he announced.
Then he voted for TPA and the Corker bill.
He would not say the word deportation until recently.
Plus I finally decided that just because the Democrat and Republican parties decided they wanted the Constitutiion changed without amending it, I do not have to go along with that.
I still know what natural born citizen means.
Obama is not one and neither are Rubio or Cruz.
Sorry if that hurts feelings.
Cruz, like Trump, is an imperfect vessel.
But they’re the best two options we have.
I wish both Freepers and the candidates could be a bit more gentle with each other.
That is telling
Haven’t you heard? Trump’s going to build a wall. And it’s going to be great.
That’s all FR needs.

That’s what America needs, not the various amnesty schemes of the rest.
I was firmly in Cruz’s corner at the beginning of the campaign...the first I guess you can say crack in that was when he made a snarky video with his children making fun of democrats. Please don’t complain when your children are made fun of when you have opened them up to be ridiculed by using them in such a way. Children should be off limits but that goes both ways. I think it was a bad lack of judgment.
Havenât you heard? Trumpâs going to build a wall. And itâs going to be great.
Thatâs all FR needs.
Ya know what? It’s enough.
Hear hear
Rubio has his faults, it is true

Yeah, that wanting to give the Democrats a permanent majority is definitely a flaw.
I have never supported Ted Cruz for president since I am absolutely positive (after much research) that Ted Cruz is definately not eligible to the office of president. Rubio either. So I will not vote for either of them.
Not all are bad, but there are about 10% of Trumpets who are insane, and have infiltrated FR like roaches.
I'm going to draw lines around the state
(Repeat 5 times)
AND pretend to be mister “constitution” and not know you were born in CANADA? Not even entertain the idea that you might not be eligible to the office?
Before Ted announced, I said, here on FR, that Ted (the constitutional expert) knows he’s ineligible, so he won’t run. I thought his integrity would force him to admit that he couldn’t run. I was quite surprised and disappointed to find out that he was just another power seeker, integrity and the constitution be damned.
Ater Obama sleazing his ineligible way into the presidency, in all good conscience, I couldn’t support an ineligible, even if he were one of OUR guys.
HELLO! What part of “he was born in CANADA” don’t you Cruz supporters get?
“Cruz is not a natural born citizen and Cruz is a liar, the debate is over.”
EXACTLY!
“Ted Cruz is his only threat”
Ted Cruz is no threat?
Could you have been on the wrong thread? There were two, one was for Trump supporters. They wouldn’t have been as nice to Cruz.
I'm Cruz supporter and agree his campaign has had some misses letting others distort his record, didn't like the Iowa flier, he wins debate on substance but not on rhetoric that so many go by.
But I 90% go by record, could care less by campaign talks / debates for the most part.
I think Trump wanted to be POTUS, he could have run as Democrat or Republican. He knew it was Republican wave after Obama so he decided Republican. Then knew major issue then win Republican nomination was immigration, so he went after it hard.
I think he may be all over the place as President, some real good things for Conservatives, then some things to please the left.
Just my view!
