The clothing company Landsâ End has apologized for recently featuring longtime pro-abortion activist Gloria Steinem on its website and catalog as a âlegendâ for her work on womenâs equality.
The profile centered around Steinemâs work for the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s and 80s, not abortion. However, more recent versions of the ERA have been interpreted as potentially invalidating various pro-life state laws. âOne reason we need an Equal Rights Amendment is because nowhere in the Constitution does the word âwomenâ appear,â Steinem told Landsâ End. âWe need a constitutional principle of female equality.â
âWe understand that some of our customers were offended by the inclusion of an interview in a recent catalog with Gloria Steinem on her quest for womenâs equality,â the company said in a statement Wednesday. âWe thought it was a good idea and we heard from our customers that, for different reasons, it wasnât. For that, we sincerely apologize. Our goal was to feature individuals with different interests and backgrounds that have made a difference for our new Legends Series, not to take any political or religious stance.â
The statement did not, however, address its accompanying sale of a tote bag adorned with the logo of Steinemâs ERA Coalition, from which they would donate $3 dollars apiece to the organizationâs Fund for Womenâs Equality, Inc. The ERA Coalitionâs website does not directly mention abortion, but does list a number of pro-abortion organizations among its affiliates, including the Center for Reproductive Rights and National Organization for Women.
Going out of business soon at a location near you !
Bought from them since Jr. HS. No more.
“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”
So the 19th Amendment states and that is part of the Constitution. How would using the word “woman” change anything?
A so-called “Equal Rights Amendment” would bring the Feds and layers of regulatory bureaucrats into every aspect of family law now regulated by the states in accordance with the Tenth Amendment.
Unsubscribed from their mailing list and won’t be buying from again. Their CEO needs to be fired.
Any suggestions on where to buy modest bathing suits for women?
My wife just clicked on their web site to tell them to NEVER send us any catalogs, and they have a big mea culpa and apology and notice that they are dropping the old battle ax, Gloria. LOL!!
Just how stupid are these people??
