Earth's oceans are swelling faster than anytime in past 2,800 years, study shows

A new batch of studies confirming the close relationship between global temperature and ocean level finds that seas are rising at the fastest rate since nearly 1000 BC.

one gallon of gas burned puts 18 pounds of co2 into the atmosphere... 18 pounds. we will all be crushed under the weight of it all... women and minorities hardest hit.

Oh my. Plant food and propulsion! A two-fer!

Oh, I know. It’s both funny and deadly serious, from the standpoint of what we are up against.

Amazing, because a quick Google search shows:

It takes oxygen to burn that gasoline. A gallon of gasoline is about 87% carbon mixed with 13% hydrogen. Perfect combustion with oxygen would produce nothing more than water vapor (H20) and CO2. However, because combustion is imperfect, we also get carbon monoxide and other by-products of imperfect combustion. That is where the weight of CO2 comes from. You need a lot of O2 to burn that C.

I've never actually done the math on this, I've only seen this Stat on left wing sites like the EPA. Too much work to do it on my phone, so this'll be rough. A gallon of gas is about 6lbs. CO2's atomic mass is 44 (C is 12, O is 16), 3.7x the carbon input. So that gives us 22lbs,assuming gas is 100% carbon, and your engine is 100% efficient in turning your fuel into co2. And then add in the additives weight, you're probably looking at maybe 15lbs of co2/co per gallon of gas. Quick Google shows mature grassland will eat about 3000lbs of co2 / acre / year. So your gallon of gas will, roughly, feed an acre of grass for about 40 hours.

thank you for the calculations... i will give them the benefit of the doubt and say a full hour of nourishment...

insightful if they would ever take their arguments to a conclusion.

I’ve posted this info before, but I’ll give you a quick reason why that 6 pounds becomes 18+ pounds.

When fuel burns it combines with OXYGEN. The weight of the oxygen is then ADDED to the weight of the fuel, giving (imagine that!) different, heavier PRODUCTS OF COMBUSTION. (That would be CO2 and H2O, for those in Rio Linda).

I live in a state with a 400-mile long barrier island. If it was being subsumed I’m pretty sure that would make the news here in Dallas.

Wife and I are planning a camping trip down there in May. I’ll let you know if it looks any different that trips in the past.

Don’t hold your breath.
