For all the expense, worry, and inconvenience of automotive maintenance and repairs, youâd think we would know better. But time and again, we ignore or do certain things to our vehicles that will almost always drive repair bills into the stratosphere. And no matter how highly rated or reliable your daily drive is, no matter how âbullet proofâ you think it might be, these very simple things will roll any vehicle into an early grave:

My car was perfectly fine... and then the front fell off.
The flake-board trunk lid has a nice look to it.
In 1971 I had a brand new Jaguar XJ6. Beautiful car, Ran 140 mph smooth as silk. The first winter I pulled it into the garage and let it sit for 4+ months.
The stupid bendable exhaust headers rusted and needed replaced. IIRC they were supposed to be stainless steel.
The inboard discs and calipers froze and had to be rebuilt.
The windshield wiper regulator also froze and needed total replacement BUT there wasn’t another available in the US. Took Jaguar months to get one. In the meantime I drove with a rope tied to the wiper arms.
I won’t even go into the electrics including the Blaupunkt Frankfort radio and the AC unit.
The body, hood hinges, started to rust.
To be fair I sold it for the same amount I paid for it, less $500. Around 2k on the odometer.
Actually per mile it proved VERY economical but I was VERY lucky.
folks, please remember to change the air in your tires come summertime as witner air is not good for summer driving- I learned that hte hard way when my tires only got 75,000 miles before i needed to change htem- had I changed otu hte air, who know,s ? Perhaps i mighta got 76,000
At least they didn’t list oil changes at 3000 miles. With todays synthetics, oil changes can go into the 10’s of thousands of miles with no worry.
On board computers, electronc ignitions, improved spark plug materials, and fuel injection means “tune ups” are meaningless. There is nothing to “tune up” unless you want to “tune” the computer settings. Synthetic oils last much longer than regular oil. They basically last forever, but you still have to change the filter. Belts and hoses are made now with different materials that are more resistant to heat. So you are whining because you want to pay for something you don’t even need? Good luck with that.
No problem if you’re in a non-inspection state.
But no-go if you aren’t
Don’t put a conservative bumper sticker on it.

Park in a Texas Walmart (never saw anything like that.)
Real technical stuff! “Don’t run into things.”
31. Let a woman drive and then text her that you’ve cheated on her.
Especially in libtard cities like Boulder, Colorado. Paint will be keyed, tires slashed, maybe more. And the hippies will ride off in their rusted out Suburu with Bernie stickers laughing at your stupid a**.
Looks like a Canadian car as depicted on South Park.
I was camping in the Florida Keys in the early 70’s and watched a guy driving on the beach until he got stuck. By the time the tow truck arrived the tide came in and the saltwater was over the top of the power windows. Poor guy was freaking out as it was his sister’s new vehicle.
If your engine overheats, don’t buy a bag of ice at the corner store to cool it down.
I thought it was worth a click. If you have teenagers it would be nice for them to hear this from one one else.
Huh...they didn’t mention driving off with your parking brake set...
The oil filter had come loose, fell off and dumped all the engine oil. Perfect engine destroyed. $3000 to rebuild. Because she wouldn't pull over. Grrrr.
I'd hate to mow that lawn. BTW, GET OFF IT!
