There must be something about Trump
Vanity

Posted on 02/21/2016 3:21:29 PM PST by NavVet

I'm trying to understand FR's embrace of the Donald, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. I too had a favorable first reaction when I heard him talking about building the wall in absolute terms, and his rejection of the concept of amnesty for illegal aliens. I also admired that he was the first politician in a long time that would fight back against the media and left-wing attacks, instead of trying to appease the left. However, that admiration quickly wore off when I researched Trump and found clip after clip of the man, in his own words embracing every liberal talking point in the book. Planned Parenthood, gay marriage, abortion, government health care, protectionist trade policies, increasing taxes on businesses and the most productive. Of course, the man has taken the opposite positions on most of these two. Sometimes he will take both sides of an issue in the same discussion. Also, his "I'm awesome at___________" is wearing a bit thin. I want to hear what you plan to do, not how great you are. Then there is his child like temper, calling anyone he doesn't agree with , Liar, Pu@@Y or worse. Just seems kind of juvenile. The personality quirks I could live with, but a man who praises Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton is another thing. And perhaps most important of all, he has said that his uber liberal sister would be a great Supreme Court Justice. Other than being a recent convert on Immigration this man has no conservative bona fides and yet have of FR acts like you would expect this board to react if Ronald Regan had returned. I just don't get it. If Bernie Sanders starts lobbying for the fair tax and runs for President on the GOP ticket would the Trumpets start feeling the Bern.

Trump donated to the people who signed the legislation that destroyed Constitutional government though. Trump’s been part of the problem, and Trump has no problem with big government either. I’ll stick with the guy who has actually opposed big government. I’ll stick with the guy that understands that a return to America’s conservative roots is the only solution to what ails this country.

It reminds me of when we invaded Iraq and Saddam had to go underground and on NBC they were speculating he might have tried to go to Mosul, I think, and Katie Couric said “we can only pray he made it.”

It is simple. Trump does not look at the world or people from the eyes of a political ideologue. He confronts a problem from the standpoint of how to solve it in the best interests of the country, period. That may mean working with the devil. He has no stings pulling at him one way or the other. Now, you may disagree with his solution, but you know it belongs exclusively to Trump and no one else. Mighty refreshing in my book.

Wrong. His donations were primarily to local and state New York Democrats. The donations to Democrats such as Clinton and Reid were to their PACs, not to the candidates themselves.

“Without Trump stirring the pot, Jethro Bush would already have been crowned.”

Without question. The ONLY reason the eGOP has kept Ted alive is to defeat Trump.

You are incorrect. Trump does a drive-by on Hillary at least twice a week.

If you read the thread you'll see a response I gave to another who questioned my use of English with you re: the very conscious reason I purposefully used those words with you, essentially in imitation of you. This conversation began on your words daring to diss Donny Kardahian Trump which didn't hurt my feelings but every 10 or so of these I give myself a little leeway and respond in kind. The other person asked if I had forgotten my sarc tag, or was serious. I responded that it was both - that I had responded to your name calling-as-an-argument in kind, as a demonstration, but also that if you can't take being taunted back, then don't taunt.

So I've answered that twice now, once to you directly, and this conversation is over, just like your candidate's run for the nomination. Sorry, tough guy, had to put that in there :-), because, well, you deserve it, Jacker. Good night.

He donate to the DCCC and the DSCC which are Democrat party organizations dedicated to get a Democrats elected to the House and Senate. Trump helped get Pelosi and Reid into positions of power. Trump funded the opposition. He funded the very people who despise everything that has made America great and could make America great again!

It is interesting that pointing out trump past history is called trump bashing. One would think that this would be an indication of a problem.

**** “Reagan is elected president in a landslide victory over incumbent Jimmy Carter” ****

That is a warm fuzzy feeling that I never get tired of
(and I say that as someone that voted (shame on me) for Jimmy when he first ran, my first time voting)

As a Military guy I served under Nixon through George W and without a doubt Reagan was the absolute Best!

I used to have “Impeach Clinton” bumper sticker and was told MANY TIMES entering and leaving Base that I had to remove it, it was scraped off a couple of times... for me, (I had more and replaced them), I was also threatened with charges if I did not remove it... hollow charges and the sticker remained, and it remained well into GW’s second term (That was a good truck, I don’t give up on a vehicle until it gives up on me)

Thank you on several levels:

  1. For your service
  2. For your courage
  3. For your kind response
  4. For your GREAT sense of humour!

If you don't mind, I'm going to use part of your post in my new condensed take on Trump:

20% chance that he's Vince the ShamWow Guy.
80% chance that he's George Patton.

As an aside, here's why I picked those percentages: Since the 1980’s I've been reading articles that Trump has written (usually in financial magazines). That was before he got a TV show or became political. His articles were always solid, and made sense. But then again...you can never be sure about a person.

My suggestion is to allow the primary process to play itself out, with mutual respect among the remaining candidates, then get down to the horse trading and the convention — surely a solid ticket can emerge from this process and frankly, any combination is way, way better than what the other side has to offer.

So vigorous debate sure, open hostility — no, it cannot help either the eventual ticket or the nation.
