Dogs attacked four children severely injuring three of them Saturday night east of Colorado Springs. Their bite wounds were so severe that they required surgery.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said a woman went to check on animals and property for her employer in Rush, about 40 miles east of Colorado Springs along Highway 94.
The woman had her five children with her in the car. They're all under age 18.
A sheriff's office spokesperson said the woman went into the barn and then she heard screams.
She found that three Great Danes had attacked four of the five children.

It is highly unusual for Danes to be aggressive unless unless really provoked. Most of them are actually rather cowardly. I suspect one of the kids did something and pack instinct kicked in. The only real problem I’ve ever seen with Danes is smaller dogs. If they are not raised with smaller dogs they may kill them if brought into a household as an adult. I would never trust a Dane with a small dog unless I had raised it my self.
“You have to wonder what the rest of the story is behind their treatment by their owner.”
Something set them off.
I was in a friend’s shop working under my pickup when his three little daughters came in with their Great Dane. They ran around laughing and making noise and then got quiet, then started making odd noises. I looked out and saw all four by the workbench and the kids sounded distressed. I crawled out and found the smiling Dane leaning against the kids and he had them pinned to the shelf under the bench. The littlest had it across her neck. They weren’t big enough to push him away. I pulled him off and two kids dropped to the floor then recovered and started making annoying noises again. Oh well, back to work.
I doubt the dogs pulled the kids from the car.
Great Danes. It says it right in the excerpt.
Got bias?
Well put.
All dogs bite. This does sound like pack behavior and prey-driven.
That’s what they make guns for. I wander around all kinds of remote areas but I am armed.
I too strongly agree these dogs were provoked because that breed is not aggressive by nature. My friend own 5 Danes and they are big sweethearts.
Of course all dogs can bite but it is contrary to the nature of this breed to be aggressive. It does not sound like pack behavior or prey driven as the mother was walking all around the property and she was NOT attacked.
Souded to me as if she didn’t encounter the dogs until after they’d bitten the kids.
I was talking about then........now is different.
Yup...Great Dane pit bulls. A story as old as time.
A pack is a pack, regardless of breed.
Kids are way squirrelly. Watched them like a hawk if they were anywhere near my dog.
How bout a pack of Pomeranians?
You might punt a couple of ‘em, but you’d get bit.
Why is now different in a lot of states going armed is easier then ever.
The world is a more dangerous place now than it was years ago, that is what I meant.
All the more reason to be armed
