Dogs attacked four children severely injuring three of them Saturday night east of Colorado Springs. Their bite wounds were so severe that they required surgery.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said a woman went to check on animals and property for her employer in Rush, about 40 miles east of Colorado Springs along Highway 94.

The woman had her five children with her in the car. They're all under age 18.

A sheriff's office spokesperson said the woman went into the barn and then she heard screams.

She found that three Great Danes had attacked four of the five children.

Some details are missing. The children are described as being in the car, then the dogs attacked them? In the car?

It says she “got them back in the car,” so they must have gotten out or been pulled out.

I wonder if the Great Danes were extremely hungry, what with the owner’s apparently being away.

Oops... Great Danes?

They’re usually love bugs of huge dogs.

This is a first.

Very unusual behavior for Great Danes. You have to wonder what the rest of the story is behind their treatment by their owner.

I was wondering that, too.

There’s not much in the article.

If I’m going to haul 5 kids around in the car, there are going to be some security/safety rules. No. 1 is to stay in the Locked car.

Went to check on animals and property, so the dogs were left unattended and apparently loose. Not tended to, how were they being fed? Three of them, dogs can revert to pack behavior if left to run wild. It is unusual for Great Danes to behave in this manner, they may be large but they’re not known for aggression. Prayers for the kids’ recovery. Sounds like her employer should foot the bill.

When I think of all the times we have gotten out of our car to wander around in remote places, it terrifies me.

Two Great Danes attacked my German shepherds when they got loose from their house (door opened by mistake, nothing intentional). My dogs still growl at them when they see them in the neighborhood.

Strange people coming onto a dog’s turf and the owner is not there. That’s always a possible problem. Could be that out on a farm like that the dogs were never properly socialized.

GD’s are very gentle dogs and this story doesn’t add up.

My brother was a cross country runner and army guy. He used to run so fast with his backpack, his drill sergeant made him slow down, as he feared others would have a stroke keeping up with him.

He lived in Houston at one time, riding miles and miles on his bike every night. He told me one day a pack of wild dogs started chasing him, one being a Pitt bull. He started kicking them in the face, then gain speed, slow again and kick them in the face, repeating this strategy mile after mile. He started to think he might not survive.... and at that moment they also gave up. He thought they would kill him.

Any animal, is unpredictable. That is lesson number one, growing up on the farm.

Some humans are animals..................

I live in Houston when I was a kid I would ride my bike past this one house that had a dog who would run out and try to attack me

I see on the news that there are parts of town where people have dumped dogs and there are packs of them. Mostly on the east and northeast side of town.
I stay out of that part of town!
