Live in Jax, haven’t been that way in a while but I’d say it never hurts to do the speed limit in that area.........oh yeah, and Lawtey also. :^)

Is there a part of the highway system in FL that’s not a speed trap? I only ever go 5-10 over because any time I crisscross the state, they’re EVERYWHERE.

waze.com’s map of the area doesn’t show any current speed traps. I always recommend using that program on your phone as it updates live for things like hidden police officers, accidents and traffic conditions.

While it’s still a good idea to drive at or near the speed limit, this excerpt from Wikipedia may answer your question:

In 2012, Waldo was ranked #3 in a National Motorists Association listing of its “Worst Speed Trap Cities” in North America (with a population of less than 50,000).[5] As of 2 September 2014, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was conducting an investigation of Waldo’s ticketing following allegations of ticketing quotas, with two police chiefs having been suspended.[6] As of October 1, 2014 the town’s police force has been disbanded.[7] The city council vote was 4-1.[8]

Yes, Hwy 301 is still full of speed traps. Little towns like Waldo post a cop right at the speed drop.

The Waldo PD was disbanded mainly because of the Speed trap mess.
However there is still plenty of speed zones that are watched like a hawk.
Just went through there mid January on my way from NC to Gainesville.
That drive requires patience, undivided attention, light foot. Speed zones galore.
I-10 to I-75 best bet.
Tell her to be careful or do as I did on the way back to Jax and beyond.
Took I-75 to I-10 and zoom. Farther but trouble free and about the same time..

Even if they have, you should tell her to ease up on the gas when traveling through redneck areas. There’s still the sheriff, and the state patrol.

Stay out of the FL panhandle. The speed trap in Milton is terrible!

Drive 5mph below the limit in Waldo and stay away from Lawtey altogether.

I drive down 301 every year, and, while those towns are speed traps, I have never been caught speeding there,

Why? Because I obey the law.

There is no reason to have to pay the ‘stupid tax’ or get caught in a ‘speed trap’. Just do what the signs say.

Ludowici, GA is another place to avoid if you want to break the law. They’re a trap too.

A few years ago the FDLE investigated and found most of the fines were being pocketed by,”officials”.there
Speed trap gone, police dept disbanded and the county sheriff is in charge

While it is completely dependent on users to accurately report on what is happening on the road, WAZE has become a go-to site for me when looking at the road ahead.

Here is a link for the compressed view from Lawty to Waldo, FL. Zoom-in and see what others are reporting. There may not be much reported when you look but it is another tool!

WAZE

I live west of Gainesville. The Waldo PD was disbanded due to corruption. Funny thing was the police officers were the ones that turned them in. It is still 35 MPH through town, but it is well marked. The is a large sign stating the speed limit is strictly enforced. No more police hiding behind things, but I wouldn’t recommend speeding through there.

Lawty almost lost thier town charter based on police corruption. They are on notice by the state. They were caught using movable signs.

Bottom line, just do the speed limit on 301 and you will be fine.
