I had a similar problem. My last name rhymed with some unfortunate words. Fortunately, it never got to the point where I wanted to change my name. I and the kids who teased me grew up.

The same reason I, Stephen by birth, go by the name "dead" - it's some vague conspiracy against Trump, who is constantly enduring horrific fuzzy conspiracies designed to harm him or his apostles... I mean supporters.

First, I want to thank the poster as to the insight of why Ted (referring to his middle name) instead of a nickname.

Rafael Edward Cruz has the same first name as his father. So did my dad and his father (Victor). So, my dad was called “Sonny,” so grandma would distinguish to whom she was referring. I’m thinking that’s why Rafael Edward Cruz was called by a nickname as a child.

My father’s nickname likewise didn’t stick when he left the house and went to school. In my father’s case, he was called “Vic” in school.
