There's something endlessly fascinating about the left's insistence that Clarence Thomas is not "authentically" black-that this descendant of slaves, this grandson of sharecroppers, this hardworking man who rose to the grandest heights of the legal profession, is a traitor to his race and his class. I don't know what it is about Thomas that drives the left so nuts, but it's there, and it's very real. Could you imagine what would happen if someone on the right described a brillant liberal African-American of being no more than a slave controlled by white devils?
I hate to say this-the charge is offered all too often with far little in the way of support-but that is racist as hell.
Leave aside the "More like Uncle Clarence Thomas, amirite?â sniggering. The suggestion that Clarence Thomas is just a mindless puppet whose strings were pulled by Antonin Scalia is racist and ignorant and wholly unsupported by anything resembling the facts. Jeffrey Toobin-no fan of Thomas, he!-has said as much in the storied pages of the New Yorker:

The leftists I have met seem to have prejudiced opinions of beople dependent on class, race and sex. They do not seepeople as individuals.
Democrats invented racism right after the Civil War to keep blacks down.
Nothing terrifies libs more than a Black who don’t buy their pitch. Dems MUST get 90+% of the Black vote, and 30+% of the Latino vote or they are a permanent minority.
The fact that his wife is white does not go over well with a lot of the race pimps.
Because Progressives are very totalitarian and Clarence Thomas and other Blacks are not supposed to walk away from the Plantation and be free.
They make whatever argument they think will win the argument at the moment.
The Democrats were the pro-slavery party before the Republicans beat them on the issue. That's but one specific case that shows what they're about.
It’s not about Clarence, they are the worst of all racists in this country. In fact its unbelievable how racist they are. Incredible. the worts anti-semetics I have met were LW democrats, and the worst of the white racists against Blacks have been LW democrats. I think its in their nature to discriminate and look down on others. Pretty weird. I mean, just look at the way they “defend” affirmative action which in fact belittles the minority and says to them they are not capable or intelligent enough to get the job or promotion on their own, so they need a White Democrat to do it for them, because White Democrats are so much smarter and better than anyone else.
Racism, its embedded in everything the LW democrats do or say
ah the LSM....Either telling us to deny reality or asking questions with obvious answers....yawn...so done with them.
He does not fit their caricature of how a negro should think and act, you see. (Nah -- they're not racist!)
“Why?” is almost always a stupid question.
If a man with his background can succeed, and can be held up as a role model to other aspiring blacks (and by extension, any other so-called disenfranchised minority), the dependency model simply evaporates. That model is the basis of liberal strength, so they will ensure that anyone violating it achieves material success only at the expense of their cultural credibility. (As though they are the sole arbiters of those credentials.)
They are racist when it comes to everything. They are also not liberal.
You’re right. We both said basically the same thing.
For the liberals it’s all about group think. Clarence Thomas is black and should be a downtrodden Democrat dependent on them for everything. The fact he’s independent and conservative is a big no no.
There are no means that cannot be justified by their political ends.
Absolutely ... and it bears repeating because it so upsets the Left when decent people tell them that their words and actions are, in fact, “racist”.
I can’t express how much I detest the bastards. And I can’t stand and have no use for the Useful Idiots that fall for their crap.
Liberals are the most racist people I’ve met.
