Put Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz in the category of those pro-life advocates who question the sincerity of Donald Trumpâs pro-life conversion on abortion. During a campaign stop in South Carolina, Cruz questioned Trumpâs pro-life bonafides, saying he has a hard time believing that someone who called himself pro-abortion for almost all his life could suddenly have a change of heart and become pro-life.
âIf a candidate has spent 60 years of his life describing himself as very, very pro-choice. If a candidate has defended partial birth abortion for most of his adult life, we should not be surprised if, as president, he will not defend the right to life,â Cruz said, according to a Politico report
Some pro-life voters have questioned if Trump is truly pro-life, despite proclamations from Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin that his pro-life conversion is authentic.
Trump ultimately changed his mind on abortion years ago, announcing his pro-life position in 2011, and on partial-birth abortion in the late 1990s after learning more about what the partial-birth abortion procedure actually entails.
âI support a womanâs right to choose, but I am uncomfortable with the procedures. When Tim Russert asked me on Meet the Press if I would ban partial-birth abortion, my pro-choice instincts led me to say no. After the show, I consulted two doctors I respect and, upon learning more about this procedure, I have concluded that I would support a ban,â he said in 2000.
Since his conversion, Trump doesnât appear to have promoted abortion and continues to say he is pro-life and opposed to funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business. But, in early February, when asked on the campaign trail to provide more specifics about the kind of abortion policies he would implement as president, he declined to give any specifics.
Instead, he repeated what he has say countless times before that he is pro-life on abortion but without providing any further details about what he would do on a myriad of pro-life issues he will face as president â most notably naming judges to the Supreme Court who will determine the abortion policy for the nation for decades to come.
The lack of specifics has already caused a group of leading pro-life women to encourage pro-life voters not to vote for Trump.
In a letter provided to LifeNews, the group of pro-life women leaders claim Trump is not trustworthy on the abortion issue because offhanded comments heâs made make it appear he supports pro-abortion judges on the Supreme Court or a pro-abortion vice-presidential running mate. The group includes heavy hitters like Marjorie Dannenfelser of the Susan B. Anthony List and Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America and black pro-life activist Star Parker.
The letter comes after an op-ed Trump wrote over the weekend outlining his pro-life views on abortion.
Trump opens the column explaining that he is pro-life with exceptions only for the very rarest abortions.
âLet me be clear â I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk,â he said. âI did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me.â
Trump said America has gone astray because it has moved away from the founding principles the nationâs founders put in most â most notably the right to life.
“Trump is starting to resemble Romney more and more.”
No, Romney was actually a lot more trustworthy than Trump!
“Again, I state FACTS. Donald did say that and he did make those donations. Do you deny that?”
No use trying to give Mr. SixChip any factual statements, it is kinda of like pissing against the wind!
“Wow, a compliment from you of all people. Maybe I misjudged you.”
So Donald it is really you, can I have an autographs for a couple of real nice freepers who worship the ground you walk on!
No. This is the Great Conservative False Hope.
Or a giant tribble !
How do we trust anyone? We listen to their views, evaluate them according to our own standards and judgement, and decide. Abortion views have evolved a lot over the years for many of us, - and a change to pro-life views for many is linked to having their own children and grandchildren and increasing maturity.
If I had a dime for every position I've re-evaluated or changed, I'd be rich, so I know I'm willing to accept a sincere explaination and get one with my life instead of trying to understand someone elses.
Thanks, bigbob.
“And he did not know McConnell lied to him about TPA
And he did not know Corker/Iran was not the best we could do.”
These 2 alone, I will NOT buy.
Great tagline : )
Well if you look at this real close, Trump was “9” years old when he supposedly made this comment....was Cruz even born in Canada then?
Yes, he aged well : )
“If I had a dime for every position I’ve re-evaluated or changed, I’d be rich....”
I sincerely hope Donald Trump DID change his mind. However, even if he did, he’s, at best, naive about Planned Parenthood.
We recently, as well as last summer, heard Mr. Trump compliment Planned Parenthood.
Priests for Life noticed it as well, and here’s one of their recent tweets:
“Priests for Life â@Priestsforlife 23h23 hours ago
We don’t need a president like Donald Trump, who claims to be #prolife, then praises Planned Parenthood. #defundpp “

I want someone far more prolife, and astute, than Donald to be the next president!
Trumnp does not have a record, he has never been an elected official in office.
Trump is a successful business man who had to butter his bread on every side of politics.
So Trumps opponents are trying to hold him accountable for political policy positions he never really held. Trumps positions on issues were business positions.
Now Trump is announcing his political positions, and in doing so with many of them has driven the political debate for both Republican and Democrat candidates for their party’s nomination.
Political correctness has been cast out the window. We are in a whole new era, and thank goodness for that.
All this we owe to Mr. Trump and you know what? He has earned my vote. May he continue on to Victory. For if he wins, that same breath of freshness will permeate the whole government and bring America back to what the people themselves need and want.
Trump will be a President who serves and protects the Constitution rather than a ‘resident who divides and conquers America for the left to the detriment of the People and the Constitution, going one executive order to far in circumventing Congress on substantive issues requiring legislation. Trump will rescind all of those executive orders. Take it to the bank !
Then why doesn’t Cruz have nine or ten or twelve children? He is not pro life — is there contraception in his picture?
You do not know anything.
According to Cruz Trump made this statement when Trump was “9” years old, was Cruz even born yet?
Thanks for the great post; ping to the thread/post.
BUMP!
And you are a delusional cultist.
