How Gun Laws are Really Enforced Against Criminals (Democrat edition)

In Detroit, home of all things Democrat, we have State Senator Virgil Smith finally getting his comeuppance....well sort of.

Smith, for those of you who don't recall, is the long-time Democrat politician from Detroit who, when confronted by his ex-wife regarding a naked woman that she found in his house when she stopped by shortly after the divorce, chose to beat her with his fists, chase her out of the house with an AR-15 rifle, fire several shots at her, and then fire several more into her brand new Mercedes.

Cop report: Naked Smith fought ex-wife before shooting

Felony city, right?

Ironically, Smith has been a solid anti-gun vote as long as he's been in Michigan politics, including past votes to deny citizens the right to carry concealed and own "assault rifles" like the AR-15 that he used to shoot at his ex-wife.

Why bother with criminals when it easier to track down and harass law aiding citizens. Less dangerous too. Oh yeah. Cute pups surrounding the article.

The anti-gun folks big push isn’t more enforcement of criminals, it is more so creating more criminals thru new gun control laws.

Ayn Rand Quote..

3) "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."

The left wants to take guns from non-violent citizens while deliberately leaving them in the hands of violent criminals.

While i think he got off lightly here, lets examine the facts.

He is home in bed with his girlfriend. His ex-wife shows up and bangs on the window, then forces her way into the house and assaults his girlfriend, who is in the bedroom. (His story, her story is that her invited her over to spend the night, you decide on her credibility)

Now I don't know why legal status an ex-wife has in Michigan, but in most places, it should be no higher than "stranger-off-the street". What is the difference between his story and a home invasion, where a criminal creates a disturbance by banging on a window and rushes in when you open the door to investigate? If the criminal then assaults his girlfriend, I think he has the right to respond with force, and deadly force in most states, since the criminal invader is in his home.

Now I agree, shooting up her car is bad, but considering the adrenaline rush from physically fighting with an invader this is more understandable than the blogger is saying.

In a just world, the ex-wife should be doing time for home invasion and two assaults...

This isn’t about either gun laws or criminals. This is about how politicians are above the law. That is it.

Laws are applied to the little people one way, and to the rich, celebrities, and politicians another different, more lenient way. They are all above the law to some extent.

So you have a Detroit politician who gets the kidd gloves treatment. What else is new? It could have been DUI or child molestation or anything else non gun related. He still would have skated and got off easy.

This isn’t about guns.

After thinking some more about this, why is shooting her car any kind of criminal mischief?

What really happened is that he chased a criminal invader out of his house, and then, seeing that her getaway vehicle was unoccupied, disabled it in order to make it easier for police to capture the criminal. And, as a side benefit, it kept the vehicle right there at the scene of the crime, both preventing spoliation of evidence, and allowing the owner to be traced.

Go to Wikipedia and read the story of the late columnist Carl Rowan, a fervent anti-gun advocate who was caught in his own lies. The incident is the epitome of liberal hypocrisy...

Liberals, if it were not for double standards, they would have not standards.
