Daniel Grayling "Dan" Fogelberg (August 13, 1951 – December 16, 2007) was an American musician, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music was inspired by sources as diverse as folk, pop, rock, classical, jazz, and bluegrass. He is best known for his early 1980s hits, including "Longer" (1980), "Leader of the Band" (1981), and "Same Old Lang Syne" (1981).

Nether Lands

Nether Lands is the fourth album by American singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg, released in 1977 (see 1977 in music). The album title is a play on Nederland, Colorado, the location of one of the studios used to record the album. Nederland is the Dutch name for the country known in English as the Netherlands.

He was a very talented musician. It’s a shame he died so young.

Heard Dan in concert in the early ‘90s. What a talented guy. Put out a lot of great music.

I particularly liked his uplifting ballad, Songbird.

I remember when the national focus was on Barbaro, the Kentucky Derby winner who later broke his leg. Fogelberg’s, “Run for the Roses,” was being played with a lot of the media accounts and retrospectives after Barbaro died...it was almost as though that song had been written for that horse...and ironically, Fogelberg died within a year or so after that.
