Venezuela Is Socialist, Senator Sanders. Any Questions?
Investors Business Daily ^ | 6 February, 2016

Socialism: Like a skyscraper crane about to topple in high winds, Venezuela is teetering on the brink of a horrific economic collapse. It was brought on by one thing: socialism, taken to the hilt.

Yet incredibly, neither Bernie Sanders nor his voters make this connection.

It's worrisome that so many Americans see socialism in a favorable light these days. A May 2015 YouGov poll showed that socialism was viewed favored favorably by 43% of Democrats, while a June 2015 Gallup poll showed that 47% of Americans would vote for a socialist.

It points to a collective loss of memory. After all, it's been decades since the fact that the Berlin Wall fell and the Soviet empire collapsed. As chess champion Garry Kasparov has noted in "Winter Is Coming," there have been no truth commissions or victory parades to institutionalize the monstrous idea's discreditation and demise. In fact, the idea seems to be resurging in the U.S. Democratic Party, even with examples of its failures continuing, the latest example being Venezuela.

Interesting. Thank you.
I wonder if Dazi is an appropriate term?

“Dems think income inequality is more important than toilet paper.”

They don’t really think that. There’s no way dems want equalize the incomes of Silicon Valley guys, green energy billionaires, hedge fund managers, bankers, union executives, Planned Parenthood executives, Warren Buffet, and everyone else who has made millions sucking off the taxpayer teat as against everyone else.

“Democratic socialism is distinct from undemocratic socialism. Democratic socialism is where the people vote themselves one another’s money. Undemocratic socialism is where the worst get on top, the people are disarmed, and elections are cancelled.”

Democratic socialism may have a short period before it becomes indistinguishable from undemocratic socialism. Max 50-100 years—it was much shorter than that in Venezuela. Eventually the jackboot has to be wielded to keep the donor classes in line. Whoever is on top then may as well be an undemocratic socialist—even if they are voted in.

Also:

truth suppression + truth distortion + disinformation + dishonesty + half truths + illusions that hide the truth = libtard propaganda

and

libtard propaganda + gullibility + naivite = successful brainwashing

It is insane that the democrats don’t make the connection.

I think its great. If Sanders gets the nomination they are toast. All the republican has to do is keep bring up examples in Venezuela and challenge Sanders to justify his position.

He can't.

The dems in power don't think that way. But they keep power by getting votes from people who literally would rather that nobody have toilet paper than to have anyone making 100x what they make.

Of course a large number of Americans have drunk the socialist/Marxist poison. They've been brainwashed in the public schools and colleges to despise America and love socialism/Marxism — a failed ideology that destroys the countries everywhere it is implemented. And now these useful idiots want that old Marxist dinosaur, Bernie Sanders, or equally reprehensible criminal, Hillary Clinton? Good luck, America, because you are going to need it.

The fruits of public education.
Back during the Eisenhower Administration a Civics teacher gave a homework assignment intended to teach - as the teacher proudly said the next day - that “society” meant nothing other than “government.” This conceit is beloved of socialists, who need a euphemism for government.

At the time, I did not accept the teacher’s notion, but I did not then know that the very start of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense puts paid to that idea:

SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.

Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one . . .

I, Pencil is an article written in 1958 by Leonard E. Read. The burden of the article is how diffuse are the inputs to make a simple item like a pencil. You have to have the obvious materials - wood, graphite, rubber, and the ferrule material and the enamel - but like the actual production using those ingredients to make the final product, the production of each of those those ingredients requires workers and machinery, and the machinery has its own manufacturers and supply and production chains. And in all cases the workers need food, shelter, and normal amenities.

The correct word for all the support which surrounds the total production of the pencil - or anything else - is society. Not government, note well, society.

And it doesn’t bother you that he’s doing so well and almost 1/2 of Americans would vote for a socialist?

Exactly. They all think they can invent the ‘New & Improved’ socialism.

there is a free market in which we can get paid what we find we are worth.

And Santa's elves are back from the post-Christmas break and are busy making your toys for next year.

You think Goldman Sachs sends its top men to Washington DC to run things to ensure that everyone is getting paid "what he is worth?"

You see, the problem with too many folks is that they think they actually have a choice between free market capitalism and whatever socialist yoke the democrats are promoting. You need to look at the Republican's. They aren't free market capitalists. They are crony capitalists - just give me a nice gubmint mandated special deal so I can get rich doing nothing much at all.

You would compare Venezuala to a capitalist's utopia - one that we don't actually have anywhere. Perhaps a more apt comparison is northern european socialist Denmark and crony-capitalist Argentina.

I am not a socialist. But there are as history has demonstrated over and over again even worse evils - and GOPeee is sliding into that hole.

“Today Venezuela, with the world’s largest oil reserves is, believe it or not, importing oil. It’s a perfect illustration of Nobel-winning economist Milton Friedman’s well known saying that if the Sahara took up socialism, there would soon be a shortage of sand.”

What should bother both parties very much is that they have so mismanaged the political affairs of this country that 1/2 of Americans would vote for a socialist. Fortunately, Christie took out Rubio last night because your biggest nightmare should have been Rubio - Sanders. I would vote Sanders. I know what Sanders is. He was a reasonably competent and effective, if screaming pinko, mayor of Burlington, VT. I don't have a clue what is in Rubio's soul. Last night he was put up as a piece of meat on the auction block so that the assembled wealthy donors could put in their bids on his carcus. Christy pointed out that there are some flies resting on it.
