Wasn't there just a mass murder in Saskatchewan? Paranoid and racist, if you ask me.

...Americans as driven by unreasonable fears to buy guns...

Obviously, Mr. Somerset isn't familiar with this country's current race down the superhighway towards communism and away from freedom. What a jerk.

Actually real American gun culture is the probably the least racist part of our society. Where else do you see people of all races in complete trust of each other than at your typical gun range. I myself feel more of an affinity for the African American guy in the next stall over with a 1911 in his hand than for any white liberal Hillary supporter.

Is it paranoia if there really are dead-soul thuggery out to get you if they can? I carry every day because I seldom see a cop and never when one is needed.

We fought two wars with the Brits and kicked their butts in both so we could enjoy the rights we have.

It's sad our neighbor to the north assimilated into British culture and share the same Monarchy that we broke from.

Liberals would rather us all trust gov’t and the general population for our families protection from evil.

Anybody who dares to individually take personal responsibility to do this is “paranoid” and “racist”.

Canada Free Press is the only voice of sanity in Canuckistan. They must feel like Charlie Hebdo in a sea of Trudeaumaniacs.

Been to Canada once. Canadians with American accents are perfectly OK, but as a Yank in Ottawa, I was very much in a foreign, European city, complete with teeming Muslim quarter that a wrong turn got me into. Got out fast.

For some reason the streets of Ottawa filled with cars bearing “Je me souviens” plates from Quebec. Even more foreign.

Anyway, Canadians aren’t nearly as antigun as the Brits, who proudly boast that they don’t need & have never needed guns in order to feel safe. Bully for them.

Paranoia is a baseless fear of persecution.

All of my life we have been fighting the gun grabbers, from back when you could still mail order a firearm.

Considering that is over half a century or fighting people who want to take my guns away, I would say there is nothing "baseless" in the feelings of persecution.

You aren't "paranoid" if someone, correctly identified, is really out to get you.

As for racism, I am an equal opportunity self-defender. Come at me with a weapon and credible malicious intent and I will shoot your ass, regardless of race, creed, color, religion, nation of origin, gender, sexual orientation, and whatever else you might think you can whine about.

Actually, I would submit that it’s gun control that is racist and paranoid. Historically speaking, at its very roots the earliest gun control laws (also promulgated by Democrats) were designed to prevent freed slaves from obtaining weapons that they could use against their former masters. Sounds rather like the attitude of our current government and the left (but I repeat myself) doesn’t it?

Most of the casual shootings are minorities shooting other minorities. That can’t be racist, can it?

Is American gun culture racist and paranoid?

Black Lives Matter is racist and paranoid. I'm sure some of them have guns.

Most of the authors addressing the more lurid aspects of what they are pleased to term the "gun culture" have met very few firearms owners. That is the way a stereotype proliferates but it doesn't speak very well for the actual researching abilities of said authors. And this doesn't help:

Somerset undercuts his arguments by deliberately ignoring solid research by respected scholars, such as Gary Kleck and John Lott; instead, he relies upon pseudo-scientific public health activists to bolster his claims.

One might as well try to describe Jewish culture based on the claims of the Volkischer Beobachter, or African-American culture on the wilder spouting of the Ku Klux Klan. It's fine if you're flacking cheap pulp fiction but not quite up to anything approaching academic rigor.

I'll pass on any spittle-throwing declamations on a culture the author clearly neither shares nor understands. Life is too short.
