As Iowans prepare to head to the caucuses on Monday for the nation's first votes in the presidential primaries, the campaigns are pulling out all the stops. The mailer sent out by one Republican campaign, however, might end up backfiring.
Tom Hinkeldey, a resident of Alta, Iowa, tweeted a photo (which was later deleted because it included his personal address) on Friday evening of a mailer Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign sent addressed to his wife, Steffany. The mailer was a large card printed to look like a manila envelope on one side and was labeled in all capital letters, "ELECTION ALERT," "VOTER VIOLATION," "PUBLIC RECORD," and "FURTHER ACTION NEEDED."
On the other side, the mailer said in red letters at the top, "VOTING VIOLATION."
Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler confirmed to IJ Review that the mailer was theirs in a phone call Friday evening, saying that the targeting had been "very narrow, but the caucuses are important and we want people who haven’t voted before to vote."

Next thing he’ll do is make them wear a scarlet “V” (Voting Violation). This is getting more bizarre by the day.
Thanks for your responses so far. I do want to make one more point. Many Trump haters keep providing ‘quotes’ that are taken out of context. I don’t recall at this moment if you are one of them, but shall we see what happens when the shoe is on the other foot ?

A slightly silly game. I don’t need the media to twist any quotes to see that self-serving buffoon for what he is. I watched him in several debates and got to see it firsthand.

I am a Cruz supporter...but I can say without any excuse or preamble that this was a big mistake by Cruz.
People will see and feel “big brother,” all over it...they very thing Cruz is campaigning against.
In addition, it will offend, and then anger them, and they will most likely (if they vote at all), go out and vote against whomever sent such a correspondence.
Cruz has some knuckleheads working for him...or agents working against him.
Does not matter...he himself should have seen how crazy this was and either stopped it...or if he did not find out until later...he should have apologized and fired the people who were responsible.
This will hurt him, particularly in Iowa, but also wherever people hear of it...and you can bet the competition will trumpet it far and wide.

Yes. That was exactly the point of my initial post. I won’t ever, nor will an ever-growing number of people in my “inner circle” of family and friends who would otherwise vote for the conservative candidate.
