Hello, I am from Japan and new here. My real name is Tomoko. I have been here in the US for almost 5 years and I will apply for citizenship at the end of 2016 when I become eligible. I learned English in a private school growing up in Japan. I live a very privileged life, and come from a fortunate family. What made want to join is I just have to comment on this.

An article I came across on about the man a while back that got caught printing guns on a 3D printer (in Japan). The 27 year old college student. Same age as me. So i felt compelled to join and voice my opinion on this.

Someone on there said that we're all socialists by majority. That would be like me assuming all Americans are all brain-dead idiots. When I know that's not true. Just a generalization. All silly talk aside, That is not true. I am not a socialist, anyway, I do know that.

I am a young woman of liberty, and even if I am not living in Japan any longer, I support them in anything that they do if it involves less government overreach, and more for them. Both our countries have grown apart due to President Obama's lawlessness and now Japan tops China as the US's top debt holder. This is where the strained relationship with very little communication from the White House all started with the Obama Administration. I know all of you can agree with me on that. Obama really strained the allied relationship between us all.

I am both happy, and concerned that Japan is no longer pacifist. It's great they are able to defend their country, and themselves but there's no 2nd Amendment for Japanese. Many love guns and we commend Americans for keeping that right for such a long time. (full autos are still heavily restricted among other things, and that should not be) But ammunition is expensive on full autos and we can agree on that.

When I got my first pistol and then my first rifle living here, I was smiling from ear-to-ear. I can't do that back home.

What Americans do, Japan is highly influential of. Both cultures watch each other's actions, especially Japanese. Both political and non-political. The younger Americans who somehow, find us interesting, lol. I wish they could have the freedoms over there, like I do here. Especially the women. Many women are capable if not, more so then the men in Japan at many male-dominated positions.

I hope to get to know all of you very well,

Thank you, and God Bless!

Welcome.

Look forward to hearing your perspective on topics posted, and congratulations on your path to citizenship. This is not the America of my youth, but the promise of this great country remains.

Welcome to America and to Free Republic, Tomoko.

My family and I lived outside of Kobe for three years in the mid eighteen-eighties. I have many happy memories of Japan and the Japanese people.

I completely understand your last sentence as my husband’s secretary confided in me that many of the men in the company relied on the women to do such simple things as setting up their computers for the day.

Gaijin joke, “Watashi wa” does not mean “nose”.

Sumimasen, I couldn’t resist.

Domo. And konnichiwa.
Born and raised American, my mother loved Tokyo and the people. At 5’10” she drew lots of interest. She had my brother and me practice with chopsticks until we could pick up a single grain of rice with the inlaid ebony chopsticks she brought home.
Try Texas if you have the opportunity. You’d love it here.

Welcome aboard to FR, Tomoko! While here, sometimes posters get nasty (meaning they insult each other), but they’re really nice people inside. We all try to get over it and forget about the insults. So don’t get upset and leave us, we’re just regular people who have different ideas and talk about them. We are far more normal than the liberals we talk about.

My dad was part of the occupation forces in Japan immediately after WWII. As a Master Sergeant, he was responsible for the needs of large neighborhoods in Tokyo, seeing that people got housing, food and other needs taken care of while recovering from the devastation of the bombings. Tokyo was in real bad shape, and the people were starving. My two older sisters were born in Tokyo, prior to my dad heading back to the USA where I was born. My family lived in a mansion that survived WWII. All that was many years ago. I’m fond of all things Japanese, studied a bit of it. Congrats for being here, and enjoy being an American!

Welcome to FR :)

There are some of us FReepers who are actually living in Japan (and pretty much anywhere else in the world)..

Don’t take offense to something a couple of people said on an online forum (that would be like me saying all Japanese are rasist.. I am so sick of hearing naive gaijin saying that :p .. I have been here almost 18 years, and I believe Ronin has been here even longer..)

Anyway, nice to meet you, and keep an open mind ;^)

P.S. Yes, Obama (obunghole) has destroyed USA pretty dang good.. Hopefully, within the next 2 generations, it can be recovered.

Welcome to FR. I think a new Nationalized Japan would very much "quiet" grumblings in the Pacific.

Enjoy.

Welcome to FreeRepublic Tomoko. I knew a Japanese girl in college many years ago named Tomiko. What is the difference in meaning in the names?

I read through the thread before posting and Tomiko looked quite a bit as you do (not with red hair, though).

Your outlook on life and embracing of our 2nd Amendments will do well for you throughout your life. I do hope that your future husband shares your conservative viewpoints and enjoyment of weaponry.

Get a concealed weapons permit (I am a one who thinks the 2nd Amendment is all the permit one needs to keep and bear arms), and use it religiously, because having a firearm at need is the one thing that can give an armed person, woman or man, a fighting chance of surviving a violent encounter with even the largest and meanest of those bent to do evil to us or our families. If you don't have a weapon with you, you are already 99% of the way to being a voluntary sacrificial victim on the altar of the Liberal's social agendas.

As for Japan, I am pleased to see Japan stepping back up to being a full scale international citizen among nations, taking responsibility again for its own defense, acting as a partner with the United States rather than a dependent, quasi-subjugated protectorate, peeking out behind Uncle Sam's skirts at the rest of Asia. I don't think Japan will again grow to be a danger to its neighbors as it did in the early to mid 20th Century, but with its new found maturity, it can be a partner in keeping China from attempting the same thing, for the some of the same reasons Japan did what it did in WWII.

It is great to see a young woman such as you who is using her head to think these things through and come to a wise and well constructed, well-founded philosophical conclusion for her life. You've found a good place in FreeRepublic where you will find other like minded THINKERS, people who also place strong value on thinking and not emotions to establish their positions on life and interaction with others. You will find that those on the other side of the political perspective put much more emphasis on feelings and emotions to establish their viewpoints. It's not what they THINK, it's what they FEEL that establishes the emphasis of how they will react at any given moment. . . And that can change on a whim. I think if you think about that, you will realize that is not a firm foundation for any structure of government. It is the difference between the Rule of Law (thinking and logic) and the Rule of Men (emotion and whim).

You will find both here on FreeRepublic, but there is lot more of the first and a lot less of the latter. That's what makes FR such a great place. Those who tend toward emotions and whims don't last too long.
