You remind me of my father.

Then he is probably a good and wise man and you should listen to him.

Domo. And konnichiwa.
Born and raised American, my mother loved Tokyo and the people. At 5’10” she drew lots of interest. She had my brother and me practice with chopsticks until we could pick up a single grain of rice with the inlaid ebony chopsticks she brought home.
Try Texas if you have the opportunity. You’d love it here.

Yet fighter pilots from both sides have met each other since the war, and even become friends. They share a common bond, even though they were adversaries. It is sad your grandpa did not have that experience, one the warriors of civilized nations seem to share.

I think the reason Bushido was so structured was to keep it from being co-opted and warped as it was during that war to justify some otherwise unthinkable acts.

That should stand as a warning to people of any strong belief, that they must be ever wary of those who would twist their beliefs and co-opt their fervor.

May your grandpa rest in peace.

Haiku, on the occasion of
Coming to America:

My wish for you, that

And smashes all them.

I’ve been there (Texas). But last I was there was at the old Texas Stadium in Irving. Great place, had a lot of fun. before the Dallas Cowboys moved into what they call “Jerry World” My favorite team, by the way! I’m too lazy to use Meta Tags, but if you guys use them, any foreign language should work!

Welcome aboard to FR, Tomoko! While here, sometimes posters get nasty (meaning they insult each other), but they’re really nice people inside. We all try to get over it and forget about the insults. So don’t get upset and leave us, we’re just regular people who have different ideas and talk about them. We are far more normal than the liberals we talk about.

My dad was part of the occupation forces in Japan immediately after WWII. As a Master Sergeant, he was responsible for the needs of large neighborhoods in Tokyo, seeing that people got housing, food and other needs taken care of while recovering from the devastation of the bombings. Tokyo was in real bad shape, and the people were starving. My two older sisters were born in Tokyo, prior to my dad heading back to the USA where I was born. My family lived in a mansion that survived WWII. All that was many years ago. I’m fond of all things Japanese, studied a bit of it. Congrats for being here, and enjoy being an American!

Well-dressed men telling falsehoods,
Politicians suck.

Exactly - the forum software is around 16 years old, and automatically converts all input to ISO 8859-1, which is an exclusively Western code page.

This is a problem with the software back-end...

Also [for user struggle]:

This is also why pretty quotes, and other punctuation get mangled - they are in different places on the Unicode page vs ISO-8859-1.
