John Glover Roberts Jr. (born January 27, 1955) is the 17th and current Chief Justice of the United States. He took his seat on September 29, 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. He has been described as having a conservative judicial philosophy in his jurisprudence.
Roberts grew up in northwest Indiana and was educated in a private school. He then attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was managing editor of the Harvard Law Review.
After being admitted to the bar, he served as a law clerk for Judge Henry Friendly and then Justice Rehnquist before taking a position in the Attorney General's office during the Reagan Administration. He went on to serve the Reagan Administration and the George H. W. Bush administration in the Department of Justice and the Office of the White House Counsel, before spending 14 years in private law practice. During this time, he argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court.[2]
In 2003, he was appointed as a judge of the D.C. Circuit by President George W. Bush, where he was serving when he was nominated to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, initially to succeed retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. When Chief Justice Rehnquist died before Roberts's confirmation hearings began, Bush instead nominated Roberts to fill the Chief Justice position.

Happy Birthday. Enjoy your day.
The actual text of the Constitution, the intent of its drafters, 2,000 years of western civilization, logic, common sense, and the previously accepted rules of statutory construction are all now utterly irrelevant.
The Constitution now says whatever the Hell five out of nine Supreme Court Justices currently want it to say. IMHO, this is the primary issue in the election.
Four sitting Supreme Court Justices will be over 80 years old this year (Kennedy, Scalia, Ginsburg and Breyer). Of the remaining five Justices, two are young far left-wing Obama appointees who will be legislating from the bench for the next 30 to 40 years (Sotomayor and Kagan), two are reliable conservatives (Thomas and Alito) and the other is a flipper (Roberts).
I am betting that Obama will get to replace at least one of the octogenarian Justices (Ginsburg) and possibly two (Breyer) before he leave office. Ginsburg will step down immediately after the current Court term and if at least a couple of RINOs join with the Democrats to confirm Obama’s far left-wing replacement then Breyer will announce his retirement so that Obama will get to pick his far left-wing replacement as well. That would leave only two octogenarian Justices (Scalia and Kennedy) for the next President to replace, and four young, reliable far left-wing Justices firmly planted on the Court.
If any three of the four octogenarian Justices are replaced with liberals then a far left-wing oligarchy of Supreme Court Justices will rule over every aspect of our lives for the next generation to come. Say goodbye to the Second Amendment, free speech, and every other right that is currently hanging on by a 5 to 4 thread.
On the other hand, if any three of the octogenarians are replaced with strict construction conservatives, then they can join with Thomas and Alito and reverse Roe, homosexual marriage, Obamacare, and every other liberal Supreme Court decree over the past 40 years.
So, our only chance is for the Republicans to hold on to the Senate AND for us to elect a Conservative President who will only nominate Conservative judges. If Chuckie Schumer controls the Senate OR if we elect a President who appoints liberal or moderate judges, then our nations is well and truly screwed.
Forgot to mention, “Ruined America.”
0bamacare is YOUR albatross, jerk.
I wonder if we will ever know for sure what kind of dirt they have on Roberts.
Another bitter disappointment, nominated by a Republican. I can’t help but think that those appointed by Republicans get a taste of ‘the good (but phony) life’ with the Dems sidling up to them once the Dems can use them for their nefarious purposes. Roberts will always be remembered for imposing the Obamacare TAX (don’t call it a TAX, it’s a FEE) on ALL Americans even when listening to the Dem lawyers argue that it isn’t a TAX. And the first SCOTUS to rule that Americans HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING. Our Freedoms took a catastrophic hit with that RULING from the ‘Supremes’. And does anybody think that Roberts wouldn’t have sided with the Left on Gay Marriage, if Kennedy hadn’t gone Left on that decision? John Roberts, you can’t hide your delusions of grandeur, but you have only had a handful of Leftists singing your praises because you are nothing but a candle in the wind. Republicans are just fed up.
Robert’s reasoning that rejecting Obamacare tax subsidies would have wreaked havoc on the health care marketplace was such a masterful interpretation of the Constitution and shows his deep understanding of our nation’s laws.
Not.
I for one think that CJ Roberts gets some unfair negative rap. I know he disappointed conservatives with his Obamacare rulings, but he showed himself very conservative with the gay marriage ruling in which he stridently dissented. He’s also been conservative on abortion and the death penalty. I just think it’s unfair to say that he’s been a stealth liberal or even as liberal as Kennedy. He may not be quite as conservative as Alito, but he’s still pretty conservative.
I do. He opposed that decision so much that he read his dissent from the bench, the first and I believe only time he's ever done that - to show his emphatic opposition to the ruling. The main reason John Roberts is given such heat are his rulings on Obamacare. Aside from that, he's generally been conservative. He's not a Souter or even a Kennedy.
Happy Birthday traitor.
Shame on him . . .
Everyone has a birthday..even cowards like Roberts...
FOAD JR
Send him a butt-plug for his fine work on the bench.
Can you wish someone a happy Go to hell????
Bush’s fault...
Just the biggest and most harmful decision he has ruled on....and had to rewrite to fit his definition!!!
