Microsoft and its hardware partners have revealed the list of Intel Skylake-based PCs that will lose support after 18 months if the computers are downgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 7 or 8.1.

The software giant along with Dell, HP, Lenovo and NEC today outlined a list of 100 PCs that will fall victim to a policy change outlined by Microsoft earlier this month.

The company previously said it would support downgrades to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 until January 2020 and January 2023.

But on January 16, Microsoft backtracked on its pledge for newer hardware featuring Intel's Skylake processors.

It will now only support Skylake PCs that have been downgraded from Windows 10 until next year.

Doesn't bother me. I have a guy who sells offlease PCs...whole or in parts. Lots of Core 2 Duo CPUs and lots of Quad Core if you need them.

I'm typing this on a newly set up Dell Optiplex 760 all loaded up and running Linux Mint. Cost me 75 bucks with 2 large hard drives.

I don't expect to ever buy one of these Fascist inspired CPU machines ever. MS can kiss me arse.

Oh yeah...here's my desktop:

Wrong. I have (or my dad has) a computer that was built in 2004 that was deemed obsolete by Apple. I was working with it yesterday. It was deemed obsolete by Apple several years ago and all support stopped.

Likewise with the software and Canvas. This has been a long sad story for me on FR. I have gotten a lot of help from fellow Freepers for how to convert old obsolete files — thank you. Still no luck.

In comparison, my XP based computers including my Dell PC from 2002 is still getting updates even though support is discontinued and my XP computers are still functional. The web browser is an issue but I use Google Chrome and Firefox anyway.

XP — Not bad for a 15 year old OS.
