Yes. He told me—really sad. Corey Wells, one of the other guys, was a PHX regular before 3 Dig Night, played local scene a lot.
I saw Farner and the Godrockers several times in the mid 90’s. They were SO good. Among the best concerts I’ve ever been to. He NAILED the GFR songs.
A friend of mine who was a roadie for Kenny Rogers way back in the early 80s told me about Connie. She is real and was a hot number back in the day.
Homer: Why do you need new bands? Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974. It’s a scientific fact.
Homer: I was in a record store, and they were playing all these bands I’d never heard of. It was like the store had gone crazy.
Marge: Record stores have always seemed crazy to me. Music is none of my business.
Homer: That’s all well and good for you, but I used to rock and roll all night and party every day. Then it was every other day... now I’m lucky to find half an hour a week in which to get funky. I’ve got to get out of this rut and back into the groove.
Homer: Grand Funk Railroad paved the way for Jefferson airplane, which cleared the way for Jefferson starship. The stage was now set for the Alan Parsons project, which I believe was some sort of hovercraft.
[the teenagers Homer and Barney are doing an acapella version of “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing” in front of a mirror]
Middle-aged Grampa: What the Hell are you two doin’?
Young Barney: It’s called rockin’ out!
Young Homer: You wouldnt understan’, dad. You’re not *with it*.
Middle-aged Grampa: I used to be with it, but then they changed what *it* was. Now what I’m with isn’t *it*, and whats *it* seems weird and scary to me. It’ll happen to you...
LS, you’ve got so many cool rock stories, it is amazing man.
Awesome I’ll have to check it out.
Saw GFR in the early days @ The Electric factory in Philly circa 1970 in my BC days and then Mark Farner again (solo), after he was born-again, in the 90's.
Really like what he did with "Some Kind of Wonderful" (since I remembered this from the Soul Brother Six on AM radio in the 60's...I was clearly an infant then...)
Great song. God certainly blessed him with an extraordinary voice and ability to play guitar.
