Receiving the call that school will be closed for a snow day prompts many different emotions. For students and teachers, it's one of the best things about Winter, but for parents it means a full day huddled inside while awful conditions brew outside. We bet when the clever teacher in the video above parodied Adele's hit song "Hello" to cry out for a snow day, she didn't expect a snowpocalypse to arrive. You know how the saying goes: be careful what you wish for! So if you're dreading the arrival of Winter Storm Jonas, here's a little humor (and hours of kid-friendly entertainment) to get you through it.

Too bad DeDumbio, mayor of NYC, has decreed that despite record snowfalls, NYC schools will be open tomorrow. I expect about 25% attendance. I literally can’t leave my home at this moment, as there is over 2’ of snow on the porch, sidewalk, etc. The maintenance men haven’t gotten to our side of the street yet. Cars are over half way up their doors in snow, but I see a few intrepid neighbors dug themselves out. My downstairs neighbor’s wife stuck his cane into the snow on our porch. It was 2/3 of the way up. Good thing we stocked up on everything before the storm, but having schools open tomorrow? Pure insanity. There are NO open parking spaces on the street, which is where 90% of teachers park.
Stupid. If you want a snow day, all you have to do is wear your pajamas backward. Everybody knows that.

Thanks for the ping!
I used to love snow days as a SAHM. It meant the kids being home, playing in the snow, while I played with them and made pastina soup, hot chocolate, etc. for when they finally came in from playing hours after I came in.
Now, I hate them and so do my kids (well kid now since only one left in high school). They aren’t built into the schedule anymore so we have to make them up in June when it’s hot and no AC.
My youngest graduates high school this year and now it’s one day later (which screws up my schedule but not the party, lol). I’ve received emails and texts from family and friends asking if the party is moved (and so far it’s the same but another snow day will screw it up). Unfortunately, now my school’s graduation is the same night as my daughter’s (it’s weird but it doesn’t change my school’s graduation night, yet). I’m usually asked by the 8th grade to present an award and I’ve attended every graduation for the last 7 years. So as of now with the snow day, they’re on the same night.
I wish we still had them built into the schedule. Or used Easter Break days first but that affects the teachers and Admin. I hate going until late June.
Things are so complicated these days. People have to drive everywhere and many families have kids in several schools. Even the private schools sometimes won’t take other siblings for whatever precious reason.
I hope your graduaton thing works out. Seems impossible we would only get one snowfall, but this has been a weird year. Our snow is so bad here, our streets aren’t even plowed yet, and it’s 4 miles to the nearest public transportation.
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!
How awful for your area. Our town has been great so far with this snow. The roads have been treated and plowed so well this time. It’s amazing. But I get it that the parking lots are still full of snow since there is no place to put it.
I work about 40 minutes from here, in the Pine Barrens, and their snow removal is atrocious.
I can relate to the indoor recess part since I have indoor recess duty. No outside recess if temps are at 32 degrees or rain or snow or if the last two are on the ground. The kids hate indoor recess.
